English reading strategies are very important ways to improve students' core competence in English. In the past, many domestic and foreign scholars have proved that students' reading achievement is closely related to their selection and use of reading strategies. Most of the studies focus on the correlation between the use of reading strategies and reading achievement of middle-school students and college students.Few of scholars pay attention to the correlation between the use of reading strategies and reading achievement of senior primary school students. The study aims to improve reading achievement of senior grade students in primary schools,so that they can improve their ability to use language comprehensively. The author chooses 98 students in Grade Five. All of them finish a questionnaire first. Then, all of them take part in another reading test. The teacher makes conclusions according to the statistics of the questionnaires and reading tests through SPSS20.0:1.The frequency of reading strategies used by senior primary school students is at a moderate level and the overall frequency of using cognitive strategies and metacognitive strategies belongs to the middle-to-upper level.2.There is a significant positive correlation between reading achievement and reading strategies especially cognitive strategies and metacognitive strategies. Therefore, the author believes that teachers should strengthen the systematic learning of reading strategies, consolidate the students' language learning and help them to cultivate good reading habits.
