An Interpreting Report On The Road Of AIIB

China took the initiative to establish Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank(AIIB)in 2013,which is an important measure to support the Belt and Road Initiative and has received positive response from Asian countries and regions as well as the western world.The documentary The Road of AIIB,an episode of the documentary project named Records of China,has attracted large audience.The documentary highlights major events in the process of the establishment of AIIB by field visit,character interview and objective narration and other means,offering audience visualized access to the learning of development of AIIB.Since the documentary has no official English subtitle,the interpreting report takes it as interpreting material to contribute to its international publicity.On the basis of systemic functional linguistics,this paper is attempted to discuss how ideational,interpersonal and textual metafunctions guide the practice of consecutive interpreting of the documentary The Road of AIIB in terms of selection of interpretation techniques and help the author to deal with some problems in interpreting process.According to the result,interpreters should establish equivalence between source and target texts in ideational,interpersonal and textual metafunctions so as to create an accurate,informative and coherent version.And it is practical to analyze pros and cons of interpretation by comparing metafunctions of original and target texts.The interpreting material The Road of AIIB is obviously characterized by external communication.It is necessary for the author to employ appropriate interpretation approaches which are conducive to exerting functions of international publicity interpreting on spreading Chinese culture,values and policies,and helping China enjoy a good global image.Combining theoretical foundation and interpreting activity,the author finds some helpful interpreting methods,which include combining static and dynamic expressions,flexibly using passive sentence,correctly dividing sentence structure,adding new information according to textual context,identifying mood,judging modal meaning,focusing changes of tone of speakers,differentiating theme and rhyme of sentences as well as employing cohesive devices to specify textual logical relation.This paper analyzes the feasibility of metafunctions in conducting interpreting practice,expecting to enrich interpreting research,and explores productive interpretation strategies to inspire other interpreters engaging in international publicity interpreting.This thesis consists of four chapters.The first chapter points out the source of interpreting task,introduces The Road of AIIB in aspects of its content and characteristics and specifies significance of the interpreting practice discussed.The second chapter describes project preparations,interpreting process and interpreting quality.The third chapter analyzes,how the author,under the guidance of systemic functional linguistics,adopts proper methods through discourse analysis to conduct international publicity interpreting.The last chapter draws a conclusion on this interpreting practice.
