The paper is a translation report on the study of the translation strategies of the conditional and passive sentences in the trademark rules.The original text is taken from Trade Marks Rules,1963,which include matters not registrable,application for preliminary advice and notice of withdrawal,procedure on receipt of application to register a trade mark,defensive trade marks,certification trade marks,advertisement of application,opposition to registration of a trade mark,associated marks and so on.It is because of the logic and preciseness of legal documents that many conditional and passive sentences appear in the text.From the perspective of Skopos theory,the paper makes a study and summary about translation strategies of conditional and passive sentences based on Trade Marks Rules,1963.Through the translation practice,the trade marks rules in the earliest period of Ireland are understood,and the language features,the characteristics of the words and the translation strategy of the legal text translation are summarized.The translation report is divided into five parts.The first part is the introduction,including the introduction of translation task,the purpose and significance of translation practice.The second part is the stylistic features of Trade Marks Rules,1963,including the lexical features and the sentence pattern features.The third part is the description of translation process,divided into preparation before translation,translation process and post translation work.The fourth part is the case analysis under the guidance of Skopos theory.It mainly analyzes the translation methods of conditional and passive sentences in legal texts.The last part is the practice summary.
