As legal translation involves knowledge of linguistic theories, translation theories, and legal studies,a number of multidisciplinary theories have been applied to the study of legal translation.Among them, functionalist translation theories which focus on text function, translation purpose and translational action are more suitable for guiding the translation of legal texts in monolingual countries. However,Chinese researchers in this area mainly adopt the first-generation functionalist translation theories, including Katherina Reiss'stypology theory and Hans Vermeer's Skopostheorie, and few scholars apply Christina Nord's model for translation-oriented text analysis to discussing the translation of legislative texts. This thesis discusses the translation of legislative texts under the theoretical framework of Nord's model for translation-oriented text analysis with the translation of Cybersecuriry Information Sharing Act of 2015 as an object for a case study.Firstly, the thesis elaborates Nord's model including the description of the principle of function plus loyalty, translation brief,top-down translation process,source-text analysis and translation evaluation, emphasizing its significance in translator training and ranslation teaching.Secondly,it introduces Cybrsecurity Information Sharing Act of 2015 and its translating. As the translation task was initiated by Professor Yu Xingzhong in class teaching,it can be used and be suitable for a case study. When this model is applied to translating Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act of 2015 into Chinese, the thesis reconstructs a translation process that starts from the establishment of translation brief to the analysis of extratextual factors, intratextual factors and text effect to translation evaluation. The findings suggest that when English legislation is translated in monolingual jurisdictions, the translated legislative text does not have any legal force, resulting in the fundamental change of text function from the priority of the source-text appellative function to the target-text informative function. Therefore, the translation purpose is to accurately convey the original language information to target text readers. And whether the information is delivered adequately or not becomes the standard for assessing the translated legislative text.
