On The E-C Translation Of Historical Text Based On Nord's Model For Translation-oriented Text Analysis

Since the reform and opening up,China has entered into the trend of globalization.Against the background of globalization,China has continuously strengthened exchange with the world in science,technology,academic research and so on.As such,the introduction of foreign books by translation and publication is increasingly surging.English Books on humanities and social sciences-including English historical books-keep flowing into China,and obviously translation of English for historical text(EHT)is playing a very important and irreplaceable role.However,the study of translation of EHT is still lacking in depth,and the practice is lacking in theoretical guidance.The model for translation-oriented text analysis is proposed by Christiane Nord,who observes that this model of text analysis helps translators understand the functions of source text features and the selection of translation strategies appropriate to the intended purpose of the translation.Based on a functional concept,she proposes analyzing a complex series of interlinked extratextual factors and intratextual features in the source text,offering a framework and model for translation in theory and practice.This is no doubt of great significance.In recent years,Nord's model for text analysis has been used in many fields of translation studies by domestic scholars and researchers except for the study of EHT translation.And the study of translation of social history of England(900-1200)has hardly been conducted.In view of this,this paper attempts to apply the model of translation-oriented text analysis to the study of EHT translation.Based on this theory,the present thesis,taking the translation practice of social history of England(900-1200)the author does as a case study,discusses the preparatory work,translation process and post-translation work,analyzes the extratextual factors and the intratextual factors,and summarizes the translation strategies and methods of such texts as well as the ways to solve the difficulties in the translation process.It is hoped that the present research can throw some useful insights into the study and practice of EHT translation.
