| This is an E-C translation report of Space and Earth Interior,which are two popular science books for children from Australia.Space mainly introduces the celestial bodies and galaxies on the space,while Earth Interior just describes the continents in the earth and some local cultural customs in various countries.Recently,more and more translators have discussed children’s literary translation from the perspective of the reception aesthetics.The reception aesthetics theory focuses on the position and role of readers’ active acceptance in literary communication,which was put forward and further developed by German theorists Hans Robert Jauss and Wolfgang Iser in the 1960 s.In the E-C translation of Space and Earth Interior,the paper will explore into the translation strategies of these two works under the the guidance of reception aesthetics.Under the guidance of reception aesthetics,the author tries to focus on children’s perspective to meet children’s demand of reading.The first is styles.Humorous writing style with children’s feature will be used to express children’s life and psychology that can arouse their resonances.The second is to achieve the reproduction of the children’s interest by words,grammars,rhetorics and other language skills.In the words level,the author takes a large number of onomatopoetic words,reduplicated words,interjections and oral verbs to make translation more interesting and vivid.In the sentence level,the author divides long sentences into several simple sentences,uses some strategies such as conversion from passive voice to active voice and conversion of part of speech to make translation appropriate for Chinese expressions and easy to be understood by children.In the rhetoric level,the author employs simile,rhyme and parallel methods to make translation as far as possible reflect the original style of ornament and can bring pleasure to children’s artistic sense.Through this translation study,this essay concludes that,when translating a popular science book for children,translators should try to refer the translation standards of children’s literature.At the same time,translators should transfer the research objects from the author and works to the readers,namely children.Translators should translate works from children’s cognitive perspective,use simple and interesting sentences and words.As long as children’s interest is aroused,thetranslation can be regarded as good one and accepted by children. |
