As a kind of fashionable alcoholic drink with good color,aroma,taste and hygienical function,wine can not only satisfy people's sensory feelings,but also serve as a symbol of one's lifestyle.With the development of our economy and the improvement of people's living standards,wine is gaining an increasing popularity with Chinese consumers which continuously expand the demand of wine.However,some of consumers know little about wine,which,to a certain extent,has affected their wine-tasting and purchase.The book of A Natural History of Wine covers a wide range of spheres making it an encyclopedia of wine.The source material of this report is selected from Chapter 9 Wine and the Senses which mainly introduces the five sensory mechanisms in wine-tasting.As a summary of the translation practice,the writer of this report analyzes the difficulties encountered in the translation process on the level of lexis,syntax and discourse through case analysis.The writer mainly uses the translation skills of word selection and extension as well as amplification and omission to deal with the difficult vocabularies.By using different translation skills the writer of this report solves the syntax difficulties.As for discourse,the writer mainly analyzes the specific application of lexical cohesive devices in this translation practice.This translation practice has benefited the writer a lot and accumulated experience for future translation.
