A Report On The Translation Of Wine For Everyday And Every Occasion

The translation material of the report comes from the first and twelfth Chapters of Wine for Everyday and Every Occasion written by the famous American wine journalist and writer,Dorothy J.Gaiter and John Brecher.By introducing how to choose wines in different occasions and how to hold a wine--tasting party,it intends to improve people's understanding of wine culture,and introduces the characteristics of different types of wines and the proper way of wine-tasting.The report consists of four parts.The first part is the presentation of translation task including the introduction of the source of translation material,the significance of material selection,the brief content of this work and author's profile.The second and the third part are the core content of this report.In the description of the translation process,the author read through the whole text and chose proper translation strategies which are mainly based on the domestication and aided by the foreignization according to the text type and language style of the source material.The translation standardization of the wine-tasting terms are also studied for the unification of terms' translation.In the case analysis,the author analyzes specific cases from the aspects of vocabulary,syntax,and discourse,and explains the perspectives and the employment of translation skills,such as the extension of the meaning of words and the integration of short sentences.The fourth part is the summary and inspiration of the whole translation process.This report summarizes the difficulties and the features of the translation of wine-tasting terms,and analyzes the solutions and the usage of translation skills used on the translation of parenthesis,prepositional phrases and short sentences,and it is hopefully that these can be taken as the references for future translation practice.
