This is a translation practice report whose source text is Chapter 1-2 from the book The Mongols:A History, which is written by a famous American writer J. Curtin. The two chapters mainly tells the readers the classification, myth, reality of Mongols and the might career of Genghis Khan and his ancestors.The book The Mongols:A History is the first one of the three books in Mongolian studies written by American scholar J. Curtin. Not only is it of great value to the Mongolian studies in China, but also it plays a positive role in promoting the globalization development of Mongolian studies. Theodore Roosevelt, an American president, once wrote a preface of more than 7 pages for this book, which highlights its important academic value and historical significance.In order to convey the original information objectively and accurately, the writer of the report searched much information concerning J. Curtain and his books and had a repeated reading of the source text before translation. Meanwhile, based on reading the relevant books on Mongolian history and culture written by Chinese scholars, the writer of the report wants to make a conformation with great efforts, especially in the translation of names of places & characters and proper nouns of Mongolian culture.Consisting of four major parts, the report is demonstrated with the following details. With an important description of the translation work, Chapter 1 plays a basic and essential role in the construction of the whole report. Focused on the process of translation as well as the difficult points, strategies and methods of translation, Chapters 2 and 3 are written and analyzed. A conclusion of the translation practice is made in Chapter 4. Through the practice, on one hand, it provides some translation skills and techniques for the E-C translation of Mongolian history and culture in the future, which is good for the further development of the research on Mongolian history and culture for globalization. On the other hand, it is a great value to the domestic Mongolian studies and development.
