At present, exchanges and cooperation in engineering are playing an increasing role in China's overseas projects.However,Chinese-English translation and studies on construction specification of project renovation are relatively few. This is a translation practice report on studying Chinese-English translation in some contents of Construction Specification for Ancient Buildings Renovation(Exposure Drafts),During the translation, many problems are presented due to complex expression, information redundancy, and lack of scientific and technological style in the original.Under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence theory, this report discusses omission method in translation process to make the English version more concise and convey the original information better. In this report, omission specifically includes structural omission in Chinese nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, and auxiliary words;rhetoric omission in determining constituent and general words;repeated information omission in parallel structure, implied information, and repeated words. The analysis finds that the application of omission not only breaks the shackle of Chinese thinking and expression habits on the English translation, but also highlights the succinctness and accuracy of scientific and technological texts.Hope this practice report can provide reference for translators who translate construction specifications in the future.
