Translation Strategies Of Preposition“In”

The preposition“in”is one of the most widely used prepositions in English text,and its translation is a very important part of English-Chinese translation,which plays an important role in the translation of a work.In addition to the method of literal translation,the preposition“in”can be translated by the methods of conversion,omission,and addition.Regarding the translation of preposition“in”,many experts and scholars have done a lot of work before.This report is mainly based on the translation practice of When We Believed in Mermaid,intending to explore and summarize the translation methods of preposition“in” based on lexical equivalence and discourse equivalence in functional equivalence theory.For preposition “in”,the translation methods of literal translation,addition,omission,adaptation are summarized,which can provide reference ideas and experiences for the translation of preposition “in”.Functional equivalence emphasizes the importance of the reader of the translation and emphasizes the spirit and style of the original text.It is particularly suitable for the translation of literary texts such as When We Believed in Mermaid.There are five chapters in this report.The first chapter focuses on the task overview of When We Believed in Mermaid and the significance of translating this novel.The second chapter deals with activities such as searching for materials before translation,familiarity with the author's preparations,the process of translation,and subsequent revisions.The third chapter is the theory framework,which mainly explains the connotation and development of functional equivalence and its guiding role in translation practice.The fourth chapter is the case analysis part,which analyzes the translation method of preposition “in” in combination with the cases.The fifth chapter is a practice summary,summing up the experience and shortcomings in the translation process.
