A Translation Project Report On An Interpretation Of Series Speech On "The Power Of Film"

With the development of modern society,films has penetrated into all aspects of human life.In this interpretation practice report,the author takes a series of speeches on “ The Power of Films ” made by three filmmakers at the TED Meeting as corpus.In the first speech “ The Art of Creating Awe”,Rob Legato shares his working experiences about making special effects in the movies,such as “Apollo 13”,“Titanic” and “ Hugo”.In the second speech“ The Mystery Box”,J.J.Abrams expresses his love for exploring the unknown through his films “Mission: Impossible III” and “Lost”.In the third speech,Jehane Noujaim highlights her intention as a film director,imagining the day when people of the world will come together through the power of films.Before the interpretation,the author searched for a number of terms in the film industry and got familiar with some plots of the movies discussed by these three speakers.Under the guidance of the “Functional Equivalence Theory”,the author analyzes the original speeches and uses some interpreting skills such as syntactic linearity,addition,omission,conversion,repetition and so on to finish the interpretation.After the interpretation,the author summarizes experiences and lessons from this interpretation practice.This report can be used as a guide to the author's future job of interpreting and providing study material and support for other interpreting lovers.
