This report is a summary of the mock consecutive interpreting of an English lecture given by Mr. James Spires at our university. Mock consecutive interpreting can let an interpreter experience the real meeting-like atmosphere, try and test the interpretation theories and skills that he has learned. English lecture at universities is close to postgraduates in its contents and styles, so it is good materials for MTI students to practise their interpreting. Through this interpreting practice, the author found out the problems that she can not do during her daily study and this lays a good foundation for her further interpreting work.There are four chapters in this report:(1) Introduction to the Task, (2) Interpretation Process, (3) Case Analysis, and (4) Summary. Chapter one introduces the background, origin, and features of the interpreting task, and the interpreting method adopted by the author. Chapter two includes getting to know the speaker, gathering background knowledge, making the glossary, trial interpreting and the general process. Chapter three is case analysis that analyzes the problems of listening comprehension, memory, note-taking, and oral expression by offering examples with discussions. The last chapter gives inspiration and summary. It maintains that learners should practice the spirit of "Persistence is the key to success". To be a qualified interpreter, one needs to work hard for having enough knowledge, good listening comprehension, good memory, skillful note-taking and nice psychological diathesis.
