Comparative Study On Clinical Efficacy Of Electroacupuncture And Warm Needling Moxibustion For Dry Eye Syndrome

Objective The aim is to comparatively observe the clinical efficacy of electroacupuncture and warm needling moxibustion in the treatment of dry eye syndrome,the improvement of meibomian gland and the impact on patients' quality of life and mental state,and provide reliable reference materials for clinical treatment of dry eye syndrome.Method By using a randomized controlled clinical study method,matched dry eye syndrome patients were randomized into the electroacupuncture group of 35 cases,and the warm needling moxibustion group of 35 cases.All patients use the same acupoints:Tai Yang(EX-HN 5),Cuan Zhu(BL 2),Si Zhu Kong(TE 23),Si bai(ST 2),Bai Hui(GV 20),Feng Chi(GB 20),He Gu(LI 4),Zu San Li(ST 36),Guang Ming(GB 37),San Yin Jiao(SP 6)and Tai Chong(LR 3).The patients of the electroacupuncture group are treated with electroacupuncture therapy in Tai Yang(EX-HN 5)and Cuan Zhu(BL 2),by using Han's acupoint nerve stimulator,in a continuous wave and frequency of 2Hz.The patients of the warm needling moxibustion group are treated with moxibustion therapy in Tai Yang(EX-HN 5)and Cuan Zhu(BL 2),and each point was treated with 2 segments.Every patient is treated 30 mins everytime,3 times per week,continuously 4 weeks.Before treatment and after the 4-week treatment,Ocular Surface Disease Index Scale Chinese Version,Schirmer I test,Corneal Fluorescein Staining,Tear Film Break-up Time,eyelid margin score,meibomian gland loss rate,Short-Form Health Survey,Hospital Anxiety and Depression are examined to compare.Result A total of 70 patients participate in the study and 6 patients drop out.In warm needling moxibustion group,3 cases drop out and 32 cases complete the treatment.In electroacupuncture group,3 cases drop out and 32 cases complete the treatment.After the 4-week treatment,the aggregate efficiency of electroacupuncture group is53.13%,and the aggregate efficiency of warm needling moxibustion group is56.25%.The difference between two groups is no statistically significant(P >0.05).Compared with before treatment,the COSDI all significantly drops(P<0.01) after treatment in both group,and the difference between two groups is no statistically significant(P>0.05).After treatment,the difference of the tear secretion in both group is no statistically significant(P>0.05).After treatment,the BUT is significantly prolonged in both two groups(P<0.01),and the difference between two groups is no statistically significant(P>0.05).After treatment,the score of FL improved in warm needling moxibustion group and electroacupuncture group(P<0.01,P<0.05),and the difference between the two groups is no statistically significant(P>0.05).After treatment,the eyelid margin score significantly decreased in both two groups(P<0.01);and the difference between two groups is no statistically significant(P>0.05).After treatment,the meibomian gland missing rate is improved in both two groups(P<0.05);the difference between the two groups is statistically insignificant(P>0.05).In warm needling moxibustion group,the score of Physical Function,Vitality,Social Function and Mental Health improved,the difference has statistically significant(P<0.05)after treatment.In electroacupuncture group,compared with before treatment,the score of every item of SF-36 shows no statistic significance(P>0.05)after treatment.Compared with before treatment,the difference of anxiety score has no statistically significant in both group(P>0.05)after treatment.Depression score shows significantly decrease(P<0.05)in warm needling moxibustion group after treatment.In electroacupuncture group,after treatment,the score of depression shows no statistic significance(P>0.05).Conclusion1.The electroacupuncture and warm needling moxibustion can both improve the symptoms,prolong BUT,and improve the corneal epithelium damage in dry eye syndrome.2.The electroacupuncture and warm needling moxibustion can both improve eyelid margin morphology and meibomian gland missing rate in dry eye syndrome.3.The warm needling moxibustion can improve the Physical Function,Vitality,Social Function and Mental Health in dry eye syndrome patients,and improve their depression emotion.
