Objective: The goal of the study is to observe and evaluate the clinical efficacy of Fuzheng Qing Ying Decoction in treating the patients with spleen-kidney yang deficiency syndrome of Hashimoto's thyroiditis and hypothyroidism,in order to provide clinical evidence-based medicine for further basic research of this disease,so as to extend the advantages of Chinese medicine. Methods: The patients with spleen-kidney yang deficiency syndrome of Hashimoto's thyroiditis and hypothyroidism,84 patients in total, were randomly split into two groups, treatment group and control group, with 42 patients in each group. The treatment group was treated with Fuzheng Qing Ying Decoction combined with Euthyrox, while the control group was treated with Euthyrox. Both two groups were treated for 12 weeks. The therapeutic effect observation indexes, including TCM syndrome classification of quantitative table total scores, function of thyroid(FT3,FT4,TSH),antibody of thyroid(Tg Ab,TPOAb),and the size of thyroid tested by ultrasound, and the safety observation indexes, including vital signs, blood routine, liver and kidney function, were recorded before and after treatment. The efficacy and the safety were assessed by statistical analysis. Results: After 12 weeks of treatment, the effective rates of the two groups were 81.0% in the treatment group and 59.5% in the control group. The effective rate of the treatment group was significantly better than that of the control group. In the respect of improving thyroid function,FT3 and FT4 increased while TSH decreased in both two groups, and there was no statistical significance between the two groups(all P > 0.05).In the aspect of improving thyroid autoantibody titers,Tg Ab and TPOAb levels decreased, and the treatment group was better than the control group(all P < 0.05).In the part of improving goiter, the size of thyroid did not change significantly, and there was no statistical significance between the two groups(all P > 0.05).The effective rates of improving the TCM symptoms in the two groups were 85.7% in the treatment group and 64.3% in the control group, and the effective rate of improving the TCM symptoms in the treatment group was significantly better than that of the control group. In the aspect of improving symptoms in details, the main symptoms, including swollen and swallowing discomfort in front of neck, fatigue, fear of cold, swelling of face and limbs, weakness of waist and knee, and amnesia and alopecia in the secondary symptoms, were obviously improved, and the treatment group was better than the control group. While the symptoms of abdominal distention, dementia, constipation and dry skin in secondary symptoms made no significant difference between the two groups. There was no significant change in safety indexes during the whole treatment. Conclusion: Fuzheng Qing Ying Decoction has definite clinical efficacy in treating Hashimoto's thyroiditis with hypothyroidism. It can significantly improve thyroid function, reduce thyroid autoantibody titer, significantly alleviate the clinical symptoms of patients with discomfort, and is safe and reliable. It is worthy of further research and promotion.
