Objective:To investigate the level of meaning in life among nurses in oncology department,and to explore the correlation with personality,psychological capital,positive and negative emotions and social support,so as to provide theoretical basis for improving the level of meaning in life among nurses in oncology department,and provide new ideas for managers to imply targeted intervention and guidance.Methods:Convenience sampling method was used in this study.365 nurses were incorporate into the study,as the survey subjects in the oncology department of 1 third-level grade-A tumor hospital and 2 third-level grade-A general hospitals in Shandong Province.The general situation questionnaire,China Meaning in Life Questionnaire(C-MLQ),Big Five Inventory(BFI),Positive Psychological Capital Questionnaire(PPQ),Positive and Negative Affect Scale(PANAS)and Perceived Social Support Scale(PSSS)were evaluated.Statistical analysis,independent sample T test,one-way analysis of variance,Pearson correlation analysis,and hierarchical regression analysis were analyzed with SPSS 25.0.AMOS 22.0 software was used to construct the structure equation model of the related factor path.Results:1.General demographic and sociological characteristics of oncology nursesA total of 365 nurses in the oncology department were surveyed in this study.95.89%were female,with an average age of 30.96±5.47 years old;73.97%married,68.13%had children;95.62%had got a bachelor degree or above.The nurses with level N2 and above accounted for 78.08%.The nurses with more than 5 years work experience in the oncology department accounted for 77.54%,and 64.11%were on night shift within three months.2.Comparison of the meaning in life scores in oncology nurses and their differences in demographic and sociological variablesThe total score of the meaning in life in oncology nurses ranged from 20 to 63,with an average of 47.54±8.02,entries score was 5.28±0.89 which is higher than the median entry score.The score existential sense ranged from 12 to 35,with an average of 26.28±4.76,entries score was 5.26±0.95),a little higher than the median entry score.The score range of meaning seeking sub-dimensions was 8-28,and the average score was 21.25±4.02,entries score was 5.31±1.01,a little higher than the median entry score.In terms of demographic and sociological variables,there were statistically significant differences of the meaning life among nurses in oncology department in terms of gender,marital status,professional title,nurse level and working years in oncology department(P<0.05,respectively).3.Correlation between psychosocial factors and the meaning in life in oncology nursesThe total scores of the oncology nurses meaning in life and the scores of all dimensions(sense of existence and sense of seeking meaning)were positively correlated with the openness,agreeableness,extraversion,sense of responsibility,psychological capital,positive emotion and social support of the Big Five personalities(R=0.173-0.475,P<0.01).There was a significant negative correlation between the total score of meaning in life and each dimension and the neuroticism of the Big Five(R=-0.177,P<0.01).There are different degrees of correlation between the neuroticism,openness,agreeableness,extraversion,conscientiousness,psychological capital,positive and negative emotions,and social support of the Big Five respectively(P<0.01).4.Stratified regression analysis of factors related to the meaning in life of nurses in oncology departmentIn oncology nurses meaning in life total score as the dependent variable,the difference was in the single factor analysis of population sociology data(gender,marital status,nurse levels,job title and working years)into the equation as the first layer of control variables,respectively,the Big Five personality of each dimension(neuroticism,openness,agreeableness,extraversion,sense of responsibility),psychological capital,the positive and negative emotions,and social support into the regression equation of the second layer hierarchical regression analysis,the results showed as followed:After controlling for demographic sociology variable,Big Five personality open performance positively predicted total score and life significance feeling and sense of life meaning sense dimension(P<0.05,respectively),Positive emotions significantly positively predicted the meaning in life and scores in all dimensions(meaning of existence and meaning seeking)(P<0.01,respectively).Social support positively predicted the total score of sense of meaning in life and scores in all dimensions(P<0.05,respectively).5.Analysis of the action path of the factors related to the meaning in life in oncology nursesAMOS 22.0 was used to construct the model of the action path of related factors.The results showed that the direct effect,indirect effect and total effect of positive emotion on the sense of life significance of oncology nurses were(0.251),(0)and(0.251).The direct effect of social support on the sense of meaning of life was(0.213),the indirect effect of positive emotion on the sense of meaning of life was(0.04),and the total effect was(0.253).The direct effect of the open dimension of the Big Five personality on the sense of meaning of life was(0.21),the indirect effect of positive emotion on the sense of meaning of life was(0.034),and the total effect was(0.244).The direct effect of psychological capital on the sense of meaning of life was(0),the indirect effect through the sense of meaning of life was(0.105),the direct effect of extraversion of Big Five personality on the meaning of life was(0),the indirect effect was(0.036),the total effect was(0.036).Conclusion:1.The sense of meaning in life of oncology nurses was at a medium to high level.2.Oncology nurses’ personality,psychological capital,positive and negative emotions,social support and the sense of meaning of life were correlated to varying degrees.3.The Big Five personalities(openness and extraversion),psychological capital and social support of oncology nurses can indirectly predicate the meaning of life through positive emotions,which provided theoretical targets for the intervention of meaning of life and points out the direction for managers.
