Objective: To investigate the clinical characteristics of patients with small cell lung cancer complicated with hyponatremia and the changes of clinical manifestations after treatment with EP regimen. Methods: Clinical data of 289 patients with small cell lung cancer were retrospectively collected. The clinical characteristics of the two groups were compared, such as electrolyte level, metastasis, and responsiveness to chemotherapy drugs, and the disease progression and changes in serum sodium level before and after chemotherapy were analyzed. Results: The incidence of hyponatremia was 35.90%(81/289).After 2cycles of chemotherapy,101 patients were enrolled with SD+PR+CR,and the overall response rate was 34.94%.There were statistically significant differences in tumor bone metastasis between the two groups(P<0.05).There were no statistical differences in age, sex, stage, liver metastasis, brain metastasis,KPS score and chemotherapy efficiency.Follow-up imaging studies in 61.73%(50/81)of the patients indicated the progression of small-cell lung cancer and the reoccurrence of hyponatremia. Conclusion: Hyponatremia is a special accessory tumor syndrome of small cell lung cancer. However, persistent or recurrent hyponatremia may indicate disease progression and poor prognosis.
