Obstetrics informatization can effectively improve the work efficiency of obstetric professionals and promote the construction of medical quality. The obstetrics would like to see obstetric management become more standardized, scientific and systematic with the introduction of modern information techniques. The professionals would welcome an obstetric information system that records and views prenatal, postpartum, and postpartum information.Pregnant women can also record and check their own records through mobile devices. However,it is difficult to develop an obstetric information system which provides high interoperatability and convenient information sharing within an established hospital information infrastructure. This is mainly caused by to the diversity of data storage, the lack of a consistent data semantic,as well as many other factors. To solve the above problems, this paper makes a comprehensive investigation of the needs of target hospitals,in particular the need for effective medical information sharing. The development of the obstetric information system is based on HL7 FHIR,an international medical information exchange standard. The main contents includes: 1.requirement analysis of the target hospital's obstetric information system, with an emphasis on its five major functions: antenatal care, natal care, postpartum rehabilitation, statistics as well as the management of user and authority;2.the encapsulation of obstetric information into FHIR resources, based on the established information sharing infrastructure, and a set of APIs to manipulate these resources having been designed and implemented for different types of clients. The resulting obstetric information system has been successfully deployed for final testing in the target hospital, and medical staffs have been using it to provide medical and health services in their daily work. The system meets the functional requirements. Both browser-based and app-based clients can call the same set of APIs for data change purpose through the standard FHIR interface provided by the system.
