Fetal monitoring has become an effective conventional antepartum and intrapartum monitoring means in obstetrics. And Obstetric Central Monitoring Station(OCMS) has become more and more important in practical use. The continuous improvement and perfection of Hospital Information System(HIS) has promoted the needs of data exchange between OCMS and HIS. However, OCMS and HIS are likely to be developed by different manufacturers, there is a certain heterogeneity between the two. In order to achieve better data exchange between OCMS and HIS, it is necessary to introduce the HL7 standard in OCMS as the communication protocol for mutual data exchange.In this paper, without changing the existing system, the HL7 gateway is introduced in OCMS for the XML-based HL7 message processing between OCMS and HIS, to resolve the information problems between the two heterogeneous systems. The HL7 Gateway includes six modules: HL7 message template library, HL7 message field template library, HL7 building module, HL7 parsing module, HL7 transmission module and HL7 authentication module. The system is developed based on the XML-based HL7 v3 message format, the TCP/IP communication protocol, and J2 EE platform. Experiments show that the HL7 gateway can achieve data exchange between OCMS and HIS effectively.
