Purpose: To explore and discuss the clinical efficacy of shallow needling in the treatment of children with idiopathic facial paralysis in the acute phase.Methods:60 children with idiopathic facial paralysis in the acute phase who meeting the standards were divided into treatment group and control group according to the random number table grouping method, each group has30 children. The treatment group was treated with shallow needling, while the other with nomal acupuncture.During the treatment, the treatment group exclude one case eventually. These two groups share the same acupoint, duration of each treatment and the course of treatment. The basic acupoints in each group were chosen in bilateral limbs and the affected side of face include :Baihui,Yangbai,Quanliao,Dicang,Jiache,Yifeng,Hegu,Zusanli and Sanyinijao.Needling once a day for 30 minutes each time;Every one week is a course of treatment. After three courses, the efficacy of the two treatments were evaluated by the House-Brackmann scale and the facial disability index(FDI).Results:1.House-Brackmann scale:The levels of facial nerve function and facial symptom scores of the two groups showed significant differences(P<0.05).After treatment, the number of patients with facial nerve function ? and ? in treatment groups increased more significantly than the other, the symptoms of facial muscle movement including wrinkled forehead, closed eyes,air-blowing,grinning and pouting in the two groups showed significant differences(P<0.05),while symptoms of taste and the pain behind ear showed no statistical significance(P<0.05).2.FDI scale :Comparing the FDIP and FDIS scores of the two groups before and after treatment, both results were P<0.05,which showed statistical significant. After the treatment, compared the FDIP score(P=0.049<0.05)and FDIS score(P=0.000<0.05)between the two groups both showed significantlystatistical significant;3.The total effective rate of treatment group was 93.10%,while the other was 86.67%.Indicating that the treatment efficacy of treatment group was better than the control group.Conclusion:1.Both the shallow needling and the conventional acupuncture method are very effective in treating children with idiopathic facial nerve paralysis in the acute stage;2.Shallow needling can significantly improve children's facial symptom score, functional level and FDI score. Moreover,it is more effective than nomal acupuncture in clinical efficacy.
