Research On The Supply Status,Problems And Countermeasures Of The Elderly Services For Demented Elders In Suzhou

Dementia is a chronic cognitive deterioration disease that frequently occurs in the elderly.It is often called Alzheimer's disease.The elderly group with dementia is often called the demented elderly.With the deepening of the ageing,the proportion of demented elderly people has also increased year by year.Due to the incurable and irreversible nature of dementia,the elderly's ability to live and work independently will gradually be lost.Dementia means disability.Therefore,the need for long-term care for the demented elderly is even stronger.However,the current attention to the elderly with dementia is far from enough,and the existing provision of old-age services is often unable to meet the needs of the elderly with dementia.The lack of early intervention for the elderly with mild and moderate dementia exacerbates the development of the disease,and the lack of professional care and support for the elderly with severe dementia leads to the poor quality of life of the elderly with dementia.Firstly,this paper uses the method of literature research to sort out the domestic and foreign literatures about the service for the aged with dementia,and to understand the current research situation of the service.On this basis,a field survey was conducted in Suzhou,a pilot city of "long term insurance",using questionnaire method and interview method.Questionnaires were sent to mental health centers,old-age institutions and Community Day Care Centers to obtain the basic information of the elderly with dementia and the demand of old-age service.According to the questionnaire,the self-care ability of the elderly with dementia is generally poor,which is inversely proportional to their age;the caregivers of the elderly with dementia are mainly their spouses;and the needs of the elderly with dementia for daily life care services are especially prominent.After that,the paper summarizes the policies of the elderly with dementia in Suzhou,and talks with different providers including government,institutions,communities and family members.It is found that the main problems in the provision of pension services for the elderly with dementia in Suzhou are as follows:(1)the absence of government responsibility and the lack of targeted policies;(2)the lack of a scientific prevention and evaluation mechanism;(3)the shortage of human resources and the great pressure on caregivers;(4)inadequate provision of mental health services.Finally,in view of the problems existing in the provision of old-age services for the mentally disabled in Suzhou,this paper puts forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions:Strengthening the functions of the government,perfecting the policy of old-age services,strengthening prevention and psychological intervention,establishing a scientific evaluation system,and integrating resources,to construct the service network for the elderly with dementia,to put people first and pay attention to the spiritual needs of the elderly with dementia.
