Objective The objective of this study was to observe and objectively evaluate the clinical effects of chiropractic techniques and traction plus auxiliary functional exercise and traction plus exercise for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis(AIS),verify the effectiveness of chiropractic techniques for the treatment of AIS,classify and analyze various data of all the patients,and carry out a simple exploration on such disease.Methods 40 cases with AIS who met the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into two groups:treatment group(N=20)and control group(N=20).The general conditions of the subjects,including age,sex,weight,Cobb angle,visual analogue scale(VAS)score and changes of cervical flexure and lumbar flexure,were recorded before treatment and after each week of treatment.In line with the principle of syndrome differentiation and treatment,the treatment group received the individualized regimen of chiropractic techniques and traction plus auxiliary functional exercise,while the control group received the regimen of traction alone plus auxiliary functional exercise.All the patients were given no other drug treatment or physiotherapy.X-ray examination was carried out about 1 month after treatment to compare the degrees of lateral curvature,VAS scores before and after treatment,and curative efficacy was evaluated according to the curative efficacy criteria for AIS in Guidelines for Diagnosis and Treatment of Common Diseases of Spinal Orthopedics in Traditional Chinese Medicine.Results 1.Cobb angle:The Cobb angle of the treatment group before treatment was 28.8013.75°,while that after treatment was 22.38±4.340(t=14.74,p<0.001).The Cobb angle of the control group before treatment was 26.51±3.74°,while that after treatment was 23.37±4.45°(t=5.613,p<0.001).2.VAS score:The VAS score of the treatment group before treatment was(1.50±0.76)points,while that after treatment was(0.35±0.48)points(t=6.328,p<0.001).The VAS score of the control group before treatment was(1.35±0.81)points,while that after treatment was(0.50±0.51)points(t=5.667,p<0.001).3.Efficacy evaluation:In the treatment group,1 patient had been cured,17 were improved and 2 had no response,with an overall response rate(ORR)of 90%;in the control group,6 were improved and 14 had no response,with an ORR of 30%(P<0.001).Conclusion 1.The data-sheet about the changes of Cobb angle suggests that the curative efficacy of chiropractic techniques and traction plus auxiliary functional exercise in the treatment group is obviously better than that of traction plus functional exercise in the control group.However,from the perspective of VAS scores before and after treatment,the two therapeutic regimens are effective in relieving pain.2.Besides,the improvement of spinal flexure in the treatment group is evidently better than that in the control group.
