Objective: In order to compare the clinical effects and postoperative recovery of discoid meniscus injury in adolescents and adults after arthroscopic treatment, the best time for surgical intervention was judged. Background :Discoid meniscus is a congenital disease of unknown etiology. It is mainly caused in Southeast Asian countries. The common clinical symptoms are knee noose and bounce. It is easy to tear due to the change of the planing structure. The torn meniscus often causes knees.Joint pain and accelerate the progress of knee osteoarthritis. In contrast, lateral discoid meniscus tears in adolescent and adults are most commonly associated with traumatic events. Methods :47 patients(50 knees)with discoid meniscus injury who were diagnosed and treated with clinical data were collected. The patients were divided into groups according to age.The children were divided into adolescent group(age <18 years old)and adult group(age>18 years old).Preoperative comparative clinical results were scored on the knee joint function using the International Knee Index Committee(IKDC)score and Lysholm score.Arthroscopic surgery was performed.According to the intraoperative findings, the meniscus was classified according to the Watanabe classification. The meniscus is divided into complete type and incomplete type.According to the tearing condition, the corresponding surgical method is selected.Meniscusplasty or sublunar subtotal resection is performed. The meniscus rehabilitation training is given after operation.Discharged after special discomfort. The patients were followed up for three, six, and twelve months after surgery. The knee function scores of the patients were scored again. The MRI of the affected knees was performed before and 12 months after surgery. The meniscus abnormality signal was detected by MRI images. The attenuation of the meniscus is evaluated to predict the relationship between recovery after age of discoid meniscus injury and age.The IKDC score and Lysholm score and the attenuation of meniscus abnormality in postoperative MRI were compared between the adolescent group and the adult group. The relationship between the healing of the discoid meniscus and age was presumed.By comparing the different types of meniscus and different surgical methods, the results are offset by different types or different surgical methods to support the above conclusions. Results :The clinical follow-up results of the discoid meniscus injury group werebetter than those of the adult group, and the abnormal signal reduction in MRI was more obvious. The clinical outcomes of different discoid meniscus types(complete and incomplete)were not observed.Significant difference(P=0.81);there was no significant difference in clinical outcomes between different surgical methods of meniscus(meniscus formation, meniscus subtotal)(P=0.53).Conclusions: Discoid meniscus injury should be treated with arthroscopic surgery in the early stage to obtain a good postoperative recovery, improve knee function and delay the occurrence of cartilage degeneration.
