Objective:?1?To elucidate the levels of mono-polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons?OH-PAHs?in underground coal miners and to find out the possible influencing factors;?2?To elucidate the distribution of neurobehavioral function in underground coal miners, and to analyze the relationship between PAHs exposure and neurobehavior, and to provide evidence for influencing factors of coal miners'neurobehavior function. Methods:Undergroud miners from a state-owned coal mine were enrolled in this study.A standardized questionnaire was used to all miners to collect the informations of general characteristics, behavior habits, occupational history and history of diseases.Morning urine was also collected at the same time. The emotional state and behavioral functions were tested using the WHO recommended Neurobehavioral Core Test Battery?NCTB?.The levels of the urine mono-hydroxy polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were detected by high performance liquid chromatography and corrected by urinary creatinine.Student's t test, analysis of variance and multivariable linear regression model were used to analyze the possible factors of neurobehavioral function.Results:?1?Basic information of the subjectsThe average age of 519 subjects was?38.16+10.07?years,and the average working age was?12.95+9.70?years.There were significant differences in working age, education background, sleep quality and work-shift in different working environments?P<0.05?,while there were significant differences in age, working age and education background in different levels of OH-PAHs?P<0.05?.?2?Urinary OH-PAHs levels of the subjects?1?Among the four kinds of urinary OH-PAHs in underground coal mine workers, levels of 2-hydroxynaphthalene?2-NAP?and 2-hydroxyanthracene?2-FLU?rank the first two, accounting for 40.5%and 35.6%,respectively.The levels of total amount of four mono-hydroxy polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons??4OH-PAHs?and 2-NAP in underground front-line miners are higher than those in underground auxiliary miners?P<0.05?.?2?Levels of 2-NAP,2-FLU and?4OH-PAHs were higher in workers who were older and had longer working age?P<0.05?.?3?Except for 9-Hydroxyphenanthrol?9-PHE?,the levels of other three kinds of urinary OH-PAHs in smokers were significant higher than those in non-smokers?P<0.05?.?4?Miners with higher frequency of cooking or barbecue showed higher level of urinary OH-PAHs than those with low frequency?P<0.05?.?3?Neurobehavioral function of the subjects?1?Scores of positive emotion factors, memory factors and reaction speed factors were higher in low PAHs exposure group than those in high PAHs exposure group.?Ptrend<0.05?.Multivariable linear regression model showed that scores of positive emotion factor, memory factor and psycho-motor factor were negatively correlated with OH-PAHs levels, while the score of reaction speed factor was positively correlated with the level of urinary OH-PAHs.?2?Age and working age may influence several neurobehavioral functions. The emotional and behavioral functions were much better in younger miners with shorter working age than those in olders with longer working age.?Ptrend<0.05?.?3?Current smoking, alcohol drinking and work-shift have a negative impact on most of the tested neurobehavioral function.?4?There were differences in scores of neurobehavioral factors among people with different education background.Miners with higher degree of education showed better performance in neurobehavioral functions compared with those with less degree of education?P<0.05?.?5?Better sleep quality were associated with higher score of memory factor,as well as lower score of negative affective factors?P<0.05?.Conclusion:?1?The levels of urinary mono-Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in underground front-line group is higher, and the majority are 2-NAP,2-FLU.The level of urinary OH-PAHs in underground coal miners may be affected by age, working age, smoking and other factors.?2?PAHs exposure may affect the neurobehavioral function in coal miners, and with the increasing of exposure level the neurobehavioral function become worse.?3?Older in age, longer working age, current smoking, alcohol consumption, low education level, poor sleep quality and work-shift all have negative effects on neurobehavioral function.
