Objectives Through application of Zhao' s thunder-fire moxibustion therapy combined with acupuncture on treating cervical spondylotic radiculopathy, the research is trying to optimize the traditional Chinese medicine treatment for cervical spondylotic radiculopathy, enrich the treatment methods, improve the curative effect of conservative treatment, and provide a safe and effective method that is suitable for clinical practice and easy to operate for the prevention and treatment of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy. Methods The case selected patients with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy who were recruited from the outpatient department of acupuncture and moxibustion, the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the outpatient department of characteristic treatment of traditional Chinese medicine from July 31,2018 to January 31,2019.60patients with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy selected through various recruitment forms were randomly divided into treatment group(Zhao's thunder-fire moxibustion combined with acupuncture)30 cases and control group(ordinary acupuncture)30 cases.1.Treatment group:point selection by moxibustion:Jing Jiaji;point selection by acupuncture:Fengchi point,Dazhui point,Waiguan point,Hegu point,Houxi point(both sides).2.Control group:Acupoint selection is the same as treatment group, general acupuncture. Two groups of patients were taking prone position.Routine skin disinfection before needling were performed. Each treatment lasts for 20 minutes, once a day, five times per week. Each week is a course of treatment. The whole treatment lasts for 2 weeks, with an interval of 2 days between each course. After each course, the clinical efficacy and the changes of Takazawa Jingjiu Symptom Quantitative Table 20,McGill Pain Scale,Neck Disability Index(NDI)and Northwick Park Neck Pain Questionnaire(NPQ)before and after treatment were observed. Results Before treatment, comparing the base lines of two groups:After statistical analysis, there was no significant difference in age, sex, course of disease,20 points of Tanaka Jingjiu Symptoms and Signs Quantitative Table,McGill Pain Scale,NDI,NPQ scales and total scores between the two groups(P>0.05).The groups were comparable. After treatment, the comparison of comprehensive clinical efficacy showed that 10 cases were cured,14 cases were markedly effective and 6 cases were improved in the treatment group. The total effective rate was 93%.By rank sum test,Z=-3.333,P<0.05,there was significant difference. The clinical effect of thunder-fire moxibustion combined with acupuncture group was significantly better than that of ordinary acupuncture group.Comparing the two groups before and after treatment,it was found that the scores of 20 points of Tanaka Jingjiu Symptoms and Signs Quantitative Table,McGill Pain Scale,NDI and NPQ Scale in the two groups were all improved, and all P<0.05.There was significant difference between the two groups, indicating that the two treatments were effective. The improvement degree of thunder-fire moxibustion combined with acupuncture group was greater than ordinary acupuncture group, and P<0.05,with significant statistical difference. It shows that the treatment groupis better than the control group in improving symptoms and signs. Conclusion Thunder-fire moxibustion combined with acupuncture is superior to the control group in improving cervical function, symptoms and signs of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy. In the course of treatment,no adverse events occurred in both groups, suggesting that Zhao's thunder-fire moxibustion therapy and acupuncture therapy are safe, effective and feasible, and worth promoting in clinical practice.
