Objective:To detect the expression of Ca-binding protein S100A9 and matrix metalloproteinase-9 protein in pancreatic cancer tissues and explore its clinical significance. Methods:The histopathologic slides and clinical data of 56 patients with pancreatic cancer, who underwent surgical resection in the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University from January 2013 to December 2017,were collected.Streptavidin-perosidase(SP)immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression of S100A9 and MMP-9 proteins in pancreatic cancer tissues and corresponding paracancerous tissues. The relationship between their expression and its correlation with clinicopathological parameters of pancreatic cancer were analyzed.Results:1.S100A9 protein was expressed in both cytoplasm and nucleus. The expression of S100A9 in pancreatic carcinoma tissues and paracancerous tissues were 69.64%(39/56)and 35.71%(20/56),respectively.The expression of S100A9 in pancreatic carcinoma tissues was significantly higher than that in paracancerous tissues(P=0.000).The expression of S100A9 in pancreatic carcinoma was significantly correlated to histological grades(P=0.001),nervous invasion(P=0.001),lymphatic metastasis(P=0.000)and TNM staging(P=0.018),but was not correlated to age(P=0.867),sexuality(P=0.487),and T stage(P=0.629).2.MMP-9 protein was predominantly expressed in cytoplasm. The expression of MMP-9 in pancreatic carcinoma tissues and paracancerous tissues were 71.43%(40/56)and 32.14%(18/56),respectively.The expression of MMP-9 in pancreatic carcinoma tissues was significantly higher than that in paracancerous tissues(P=0.000).The expression of MMP-9 in pancreatic carcinoma was significantly correlated to nervous invasion(P=0.005),lymphatic metastasis(P=0.002)and TNM staging(P=0.014),but was not correlated to age(P=0.608),sexuality(P=0.866),T stage(P=0.521)and histological grades(P=0.252).3.The Spearman correlation analysis showed a positive correlation between the expression of S100A9 and MMP-9 protein in pancreatic carcinoma(r=0.614,P=0.000).Conclusions:1.S100A9 and MMP-9 proteins are aberrantly up-regulated in pancreatic cancer, which are closely associated with the progress of pancreatic cancer.2.The expression of S100A9 and MMP-9 is positively correlated in pancreatic cancer.3.Combined detection of S100A9 and MMP-9 protein expression may be helpful to the diagnosis and prognosis of pancreatic cancer.
