Aims Physicians and nurses in 15 hospitals in Anhui province were selected to compare the job satisfaction of physician and nurses in public and private hospitals,and identify the underlying factors that affect the job satisfaction.Methods Six public hospitals and nine private hospitals in northern,central and southern of Anhui province were selected by random sampling method,and the physicians and nurses on duty were investigated by anonymous filling in the Job Satisfaction Survey.Descriptive analysis,two independent sample t-test,chi-square test,non-parametric test,multiple linear regression and multivariate logistic regression were used to analyze.Results(1)The overall job satisfaction of physicians and nurses was 116.70±18.262,the physicians and nurses were satisfied with only three dimensions,such as coworkers,supervision and nature of work,with the score ranging from 14.51 to 14.64.The three lowest-score dimensions both in public and private hospitals were pay,benefits,and operating procedures,the public hospitals have the lowest score in operating procedures(10.75±2.438)and social hospitals have the lowest score in benefits(11.46±3.557).(2)Satisfaction with the pay,benefits and contingent rewards of participant in public hospitals was significantly higher than that in private hospitals.(3)The analysis revealed that hospital type,occupation,age,professional title,tenure in current post,join in academic conference in past two years or not,unemployment insurance,maternity insurance and housing accumulation fund had a significant impact on overall job satisfaction,pay,promotion,supervision,benefits,contingent reward,operatingprocedures,nature of work,coworkers and communication of physicians and nurses(P<0.05).Conclusions(1)The overall job satisfaction of physicians and nurses were not high,which is at the normal level,and and the participant were satisfied with coworkers,supervision and nature of work.The three dimensions of lowest job satisfaction were pay,benefits and operating procedures,public hospitals have the lowest satisfaction with operating procedures,and social hospitals have the lowest satisfaction with benefits.(2)The job satisfaction of public hospitals was higher than that of private hospitals in pay,benefits and contingent rewards.(3)The job satisfaction in promotion,supervision,benefits,contingent rewards,operating procedures,communication and the overall job satisfaction were higher than physicians',participant over 50 were more satisfied with operating procedures than those under 30,the physicians and nurses without professional title was satisfied in pay,benefits,coworkers and communication,the job satisfaction who have worked for less than 4 years was the highest in the dimensions of pay,contingent rewards,operating procedures and coworkers,medical staff who participated in professional academic conferences in past two years were highly satisfied with pay,promotion,benefits and nature of work,people with unemployment insurance were highly satisfied with promotion,supervision and benefits,people with maternity insurance were highly satisfied with pay,contingent rewards and nature of work,physicians and nurses without housing accumulation fund were higher than those with housing provident fund in pay,promotion,benefits,supervision,contingent rewards,operating procedures,nature of work,communication and the overall job satisfaction.
