ObjectiveTo evaluate the clinical efficacy of acupuncture in preventingand treating Primary Dysmenorrhea(PD)by observing the effectof acupuncture in relieving the clinical symptoms and pain scores of patients with PD.Methods62 patients who met the diagnostic criteria of primary dysmenorrhea were randomly assigned to acupuncture group(31 cases)and sham acupuncture group(31 cases)in a 1:1 ratio. The main points of the acupuncture group were, bilateral guanyuan, bilateral sanyinjiao, bilateral zigong, bilateral xuehai, and other points : the bilateral zusanli for deficiency syndrome, and the bilateral diji for sufficiency syndrome; The sham acupuncture group selected ten of the non acupoint stimulation points on the back. The acupuncture group received conventional acupuncture, while the sham acupuncture group received noninvasive sham acupuncture, all of which were treated for 5 days consecutively in the week before menstruation, and 3 enstrual cycles were treated. The study cycle consisted of 1 mensture cycle of baseline,3 mensture cycle of treatment, and 3 mensture cycle of follow-up.The primary outcome is the average severity and the total onset time of dysmenorrhea symptoms and the?Visual Analogue Scale(VAS).Results1.There was no statistically differences in age, menarche age, menstrual cycle, duration of menstruation,CMSS score,VAS score between the two groups at baseline(p>0.05).There was a comparability between the two groups.2.CMSS score : compared with the baseline, the average severity of dysmenorrhea symptoms scores, the total onset time of dysmenorrhea symptoms score and the symptom score of dysmenorrhea of each menstrual cycle in acupuncture group and sham acupuncture group were significant decreased(p<0.05);Comparison between groups, there were statistical differences between the acupuncture group and the sham acupuncture group in each menstrual follow-up cycle(P<0.05).3.VAS score: compared with the baseline, the VAS scores of each menstrual cycle in acupuncture group were significant lower(p<0.05);the VAS scores of the other menstrual cycles in sham acupuncture group were significantly reduced(p<0.05);Comparison between groups, there were statistical differences was found between the two groups in the each menstrual follow-up cycles(P<0.05).ConclusionBoth Acupuncture and sham acupuncture can ffectively reduce the average severity of dysmenorrhea symptoms, the total onset time of dysmenorrhea symptoms, dysmenorrheal symptom scores and VAS scores in patients with primary dysmenorrhea. However, there is statistical difference between the curative effect of acupuncture and sham-acupuncture in the follow-up period. It is suggested that acupuncture treatment of primary dysmenorrhea lasts a long time andhas preventive effect on primary dysmenorrhea..
