ObjectiveThis study aims to investigate ICU nurses empathy ability, the status quo of occupational stress, social support, understand the empathy ability ICU nurses in general the differences of demographic factors, explore the ICU nurses empathy ability and the correlation of occupational stress and social support, provide theoretical basis for further research and data support, and help nursing managers to take pertinent measures to improve the empathy ability of ICU nurses, improve the more satisfactory service for patients.MethodsThis study selected 450 ICU nurses from 26 grade a hospitals in liaoning from December 2017 to February 2018 by questionnaire. The general demographic data of ICU nurses,Jefferson empathy scale(JSE-HP),Chinese nurses' work stress source scale and social support rating scale were used as questionnaires to investigate.SPSS 22 was adopted.Software 0 was used to input the collected data, and general descriptive analysis,t test, variance analysis,Pearson correlation analysis and multiple linear regression equation were used to explore the main factors affecting the empathy ability of ICU nurses.Results1.The average score of total empathy ability of ICU nurses was(112.12±9.71),and the scores of each dimension were: point of view selection score(57.93 4.24),emotional nursing score(37.72±4.82),and transcended thinkingscore(16.46±3.35).The empathy ability of ICU nurses was different in different marital status, different age groups and different working years groups, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).2.The average score of ICU nurses' occupational stress was(83.62±10.79).The occupational stress of ICU nurses was different in different gender, age, working years, marital status, educational background and professional title groups, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).3.The mean total score of ICU nurses' social support level was(30.40±4.36).There were significant differences in ICU nurses' social support among different age groups, years of service, marital status and educational background groups(P<0.05).4.Correlation analysis between ICU nurses' empathy ability, occupational stress, social support and general demographic data by Pearson model shows that. The total score of ICU nurses' empathy ability was positively correlated with age and working years(P < 0.01),and negatively correlated with marital status(P < 0.01).Age,working years and marital status were input into the regression equation,The regression equation was statistically significant(F=9.963,P < 0.001).5,ICU nurses empathy ability score with occupational stress scores negatively correlated(P < 0.01),the ICU nurses empathy ability scores and total scores of each dimension with social support were positively correlated(P <0.01),the occupational stress, social support each dimension substitution method step by step input, the regression equation was statistically significant(F = 14.081,P < 0.001).Conclusions1.The empathic ability of ICU nurses is affected by age, working years and marital status. The empathic ability of ICU nurses in different age, working years and marital status groups is different.2.The score of ICU nurses' occupational stress is different in different gender, age, working years, marital status, educational background and professional title.3.Social support scores of ICU nurses were different in different age, working years, marital status and educational background.4.In the regression analysis of all dimensions of ICU nurses' empathic ability and occupational stress, nursing professional and work problems and patient care problems were the main sources of occupational stress and had the greatest impact on the empathic ability.5.In the regression analysis of all dimensions of empathy and social support of ICU nurses, objective support is the main source of social support and has the greatest impact on empathy.
