Skin color is an important indicator of health status of the human skin.It provides key evidence in the diagnosis of pigmented skin diseases.At present,the clinical evaluation of skin color mainly relies on the doctor’s subjective judgment by naked eyes.Due to the difference in each observer’s perception of color,various evaluation results could be obtained.Objective and standardized approach for skin color evaluation is needed.There is a great significance to establish an evaluation system that can be used for objective color evaluation in clinic setting.With the development of science and technology,many techniques have been used to quantify color.Amongst those reported techniques the digital photo analysis based technique might be a feasible approach for the objective evaluation of skin color.The light source,camera,and photograph environment can influence the true color of digital photos.In order to evaluate the skin color accurately and objectively,this paper used the L*a*b*color space coordinate to quantify skin color,based spectrophotometer measurement to correct digital photo’s color,then studied the influence of different light sources and camera parameters on the color of digital photos,and also established suitable photograph environment to reproduce the skin color.The skin color evaluation system was mainly optimized for the evaluation of skin color of Port Wine Stains(PWS).One of the key steps of this study was the use of the "PWS color card",a custom-made color template for the color correction of digital photos.This paper completed the software design for PWS color analysis and treatment efficacy evaluation from digital photo analysis.The software design consisted of system initialization module,PWS skin color detection module,PWS area detection module,color classification module and database module.
