Objective:Under the theory of the Complex-Adaptive System, we try to performa digital analysis on the characteristics of tongue color with help of colorimetry and the measure of ambiguous mathematics combined with research outcomes of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)and then establish an automatic recognition system of the tongue color in TCM. With the international development of TCM and the development of global digital information, the digital and standardized study of TCM get more and more important, we must carry out the objective research on four diagnostic methods of TCM: inspection, auscultation and olfaction, inquiry, pulse-feeling and palpation, in order to promote the succession and development of TCM.Methods:put the digital photogram or color picture into computer, and convert in digital signals which could be recognized by computer in order to establish a standard tongue-color data-bank as a sample. This data-bank was based on RGB (red, green, blue), computer could automatically detect color component value of RGB, R, G, B percentage of total RGB value and proportion among R,G and B, and then analyze and obtain color characteristics of tongue. Finally, an automatic recognition system of the tongue color in TCM was established by cluster analysis of above color RGB indexes which were changed into HSV ones.
