A Study On The Cases In Wan Quan's Medical Works

Wan Quan,also known as Quan ren and Mi Zhai,is a famous and prolific traditional Chinese physician in Ming dynasty,who contributes greatly to the development of TCM.There are many cases in his medical works,including various contents,manifesting his academic thoughts.The study finds that Wan Quan finishes a total of 11 works,carrying 402 medical cases,among which 16 cases are adopted from Li Dongyuan,Zhu Danxi,Qian Yi,etc.Besides,37 cases are duplicated,and thus there are a total of 349 medical cases in his works.These medical cases are involved in pediatrics,pox and measles,gynecology,surgery,etc,with the former two being the majority,and some cases are about his family members.By studying these cases,we summarize Wan Quan's academic thoughts as follows:(1)In terms of pediatrics,he attaches importance to syndrome differentiation according to five zang organs and the roles of the spleen and the stomach.He stresses the role of inspection when making four examinations,prevention,fetus education and the emotions in treatment.He is also skilled in treating pox and measles with accurate prescription.(2)In terms of genecology,he is skilled in regulating menstruation and qi,tonifying the heart and the spleen.More specifically,method of clearing heat and tonifying the spleen is adopted in progestation,while method of replenishing qi and blood is adopted in postpartum stage.(3)In terms of health cultivation,he insists on proper diet,few desires,cultivating qi and spirit,harmonizing emotions,following the laws of heaven to regulate yin and yang,and strengthening healthy qi to prevent diseases.
