Clinical Study On Lianlou Wendan Decoction In Treating Phlegm And Turbidity Typed Metabolic Syndrome

Objective:The purpose of this study was to observe the clinical efficacy of Lianlou Wendan decoction in treating phlegm and turbidity typed metabolic syndrome(MS),and to discuss the theory of action mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine.Methods:The 60 patients who met the inclusion criteria of phlegm and turbidity typed metabolic syndrome were collected from the endocrinology clinic and ward of the Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.They were randomly divided into treatment group 30 cases and control group 30 cases.Both groups were treated with conventional basic treatments such as lifestyle interventions and daily medications.Western medicine control group:Add metformin(0.5 g/tablet)orally to basic treatment;Chinese medicine treatment group:Based on the basic treatment and metformin oral administration,plus Lianlou Wendan soup.Both groups took 4 weeks as a course of treatment,observed 3 courses,and record TCM observation indicators before and after treatment in both groups,such as: TCM syndrome scores,efficacy of individual symptoms,and efficacy of syndromes;western medicine observation indicators such as: fasting plasma glucose(FPG),2 hours postprandial blood glucose(2h PBG),and glycated hemoglobin(Hb A1c),fasting insulin(FINS),insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR),body mass index(BMI),waist circumference(WC),total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C).Results:After the treatment,both Chinese medicine and western medicineobservation indicators improved,and the treatment group was significantly better than the control group in improving clinical symptoms of TCM,improving insulin resistance(IR)and FINS,reducing FPG,2h PBG and Hb A1 c,decreasing TC,and reducing abdominal obesity(P<0.05).Conclusions:The treatment group with Lianlou Wendan Decoction can significantly improve the clinical sympto MS of TCM in patients with MS,and can improve IR,blood glucose,obesity and blood lipid levels,and the curative effect is better than the control group treated with Western medicine only.
