ObjectiveChronic pharyngitis is a common disease affected by many factors.And it may reoccur on various conditions and is mostly considered related to body constitution of yin-deficiency from the angle of Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).Thus many Chinese patent drug at present are mainly prescribed to clear heat and nourish yin.Actually,due to heavier and heavier pressure from work and life living,less and less sports exercise,more and more people are diagnosed as qi-deficiency and yang-deficiency.However,these people are not suitable for the prescription of clearing heat.The study was conducted to investigate the relationship among body constitution,lifestyle and chronic pharyngitis,also to evaluate the efficacy of Taomei Sijun Decoction for chronic pharyngitis in patient with qi-deficiency.It helps to explore new theory and method treating chronic pharyngitis.MethodsFrom March to December,year 2016,patients from Otolaryngological Department were investigated by lifestyle questionnaire and survey of classification and determination of constitution in TCM.They also accepted check of Electronic laryngoscope.According to inclusive and exclusive criteria,patients of chronic pharyngitis with constitutions of simply qi-deficiency or mixed-up with qi-deficiency were enrolled and randomly assigned to two groups.Participants in the treatment group were treated with prescription of Taomei Sijun Decoction,while control groupBuzhong Yiqi Pills.Both groups were treated with Tianzhu fogging agent(nebulization)which had been proved having great effect on chronic pharyngitis before.The statistical package was adopted to analyze the distribution of TCM constitution and lifestyle in chronic pharyngitis and to evaluate the therapeutic effect.Results154 questionnaires were enrolled for the analysis of distribution of TCM constitution and lifestyle,among which,63 were diagnosed as simply qi-deficiency or mixed-up with qi-deficiency.61 patients who met inclusive and exclusive criteria were treated with prescription of TCM.Finally 55 participants(28 in the treatment group,27 in the control group)completed the treatment.No adverse-event was reported.According to the survey of classification and determination of constitution in TCM,the constitutions distribution of chronic pharyngitis show as:qi-deficiency(22.26%)>yang-deficiency(16.96%)>yin-deficiency(13.78%)>phlegm-hygrosis(13.43%)>qi-stagnation(10.60%)>yin-yang harmony(9.54%)>dampness-heat(4.95%)>blood-stasis = special constitution(4.24%).Six in ten patients were with mixedconstitution and most have tendency to a certain constitution.Among the 154 patients under investigation,33.8%enjoy irritant food and 18.8%drinking and smoking.All of them go to bed after 23pm.Both Taomei Sijun Decoction and Buzhong Yiqi Pills combined with throat nebulization in Tianzhu fogging agent have certain therapeutic effect on chronic pharyngitis.However,the cure rate of the former is 71.43%while the latter 40.74%(P<0.05).The totaleffective rate in the treatment group is 92.86%while the control group 88.8%9(P>0.05).Two groups were analyzed by rank-sum test,the difference were statistically significant.ConclusionAmong the patients with chronic pharyngitis aged from 20 to 62,the majority are with constitutionof qi-deficiency followed by yang-deficiency,blood-stasis and special constitution minimum.Taomei Sijun Decoction combined with Tianzhu fogging agent has obvious and better therapeutic effect for patients of qi-deficiency with chronic pharyngitis,improving local pharyngeal and general symptoms without any adverse reaction.It provides a practical way for the treatment of chronic pharyngitis with consideration of TCM constitution.
