Objective:To investigate the influence of myopia on optical quality in healthy young adults, this article evaluated objective optical quality of healthy young adults with emmetropia, low myopia, moderate myopia and high myopia by the Optical Quality Analysis System(OQAS).Methods:This was a randomized,controlled,cross-sectional study.Healthy young adults aged from 18 to 30 years were mainly recruited from those undergoing preoperative examinations prior to myopia refractive surgery and some emmetropia healthy young adults were included.Only right eyes of 93 subjects were included for factor analyses.Four groups were categorized according to their spherical equivalent refraction(SE)values, with 19 eyes in the emmetropia group(+0.50D<SE<-0.50D),26 eyes in the low myopia group(-0.50D<SE<-3D),27 eyes in the moderate myopia group(-3D<SE<-6D),21 eyes in the high myopia group(SE>-6D).The OQAS was used to measure optical quality in the study population, with an artificial pupil of 4.0 mm in diameter. The optical quality parameters included modulation transfer function cutoff frequency(MTFcutoff),Strehl ratio(SR),objective scatter index(OSI),OQAS values at contrasts of 100,20 and nine percent(OV100%,OV 20%,OV 9%,respectively).ANOVA and Pearson correlation analysis were applied to analyze parameters in different groups. Results:The mean value of MTFcutoff was 39.67±9.65 cycles per degree(cyc/deg),37.79±4.43 cyc/deg,33.82±9.29 cyc/deg,28.87±8.26 cyc/deg in the emmetropia group, low myopia group, moderate myopia group, high myopia group respectively;the mean value of SR was0.25±0.04,0.23±0.04,0.21 ±0.08,0.18±0.06 respectively;the mean value of OSI was 0.47±0.15,0.53±0.21,0.68±0.26,0.91 ±0.33 respectively;the mean value of OV100%was 1.45±0.33,1.32±0.17,1.22±0.37,1.01 ±0.31 respectively;the mean value of OV20%was 1.40±0.37,1.30±0.17,1,13±0.47,0.95±0.37 respectively;the mean value of OV9%was 1.44±0.26,1.34±0.24,1.16±0.63,0.80±0.31 respectively. No significant difference was found among emmetropia group, low myopia group and moderate myopia group in any of the optical quality parameters(P>0.05).The mean values of MTFcutoff,SR,OV100%,OV20%,OV9%in high myopia group were significantly lower than the emmetropia group, low myopia group, moderate myopia group(P<0.05).The mean value of OSI in the high myopia group was significantly higher than the emmetropia group, low myopia group, moderate myopia group(P<0.05).There was significant relationship between each parameter of optical quality and SE(P>0.05).No significant relationship was found between each parameter of optical quality and age(P>0.05).Conclusion:The optical quality of high myopia young adults was worse than the optical quality of low or moderate myopia young adults. The optical quality of young adults with myopia decreased with the rise of SE.
