Investigation And Comparison Of Image Quality Between Two Different Refractive Corrections Among Super High Myopia Patients

Objective:Nowadays,spectacle lens and corneal contact lens are the most commonly used refractive correction methods among patients with refractive errors.People with low to moderate myopia tend to wear spectacle lens,while people with high myopia tend to corneal contact lens.This study intends to use OQAS-II to measure and compare the image quality of people with super high myopia between spectacle lens and soft contact lens,for the purpose of deciding which one is better and giving them a better suggestion.Methods: The study is a prospective clinical study.From September 2018 to May 2019,Twenty-two super high myopia patients(30 eyes)from second affiliated hospital of Anhui Medical University were enrolled in this study.The age ranges from 18 to 35 years old.The myopia degree ranges from-10 D to-23 D.The astigma degree ranges from-0.5D to-5.12 D.Each patient was measured by OQAS-II for OSI(optical scatter meter),SR(strehl ratio)and MTF cut off(modulation transfer function cut off),OV100%(OQAS Value 100%),OV20%(OQAS Value 20%)and OV9%(OQAS Value9%)with two refractive corrections.Then the statistics from two different corrections were compared.Results:Mean OSI was 3.44±2.71 with spectacle lenses and 3.84±2.44 with soft contact lenses(P=0.270>0.05).Mean SR was 0.12±0.06 with spectacle lenses and 0.10±0.04 with soft contact lenses(P=0.132>0.05).Mean MTF cutoff was 20.65±12.53 with spectacle lenses and 14.55±8.56 with soft contact lenses(P=0.007<0.05).Mean OV100% was 0.71±0.43 with spectacle lenses and 0.52±0.31 with soft contactlenses(P=0.006<0.05).Mean OV20% was 0.68±0.44 with spectacle lenses and0.49±0.29 with soft contact lenses(P=0.008<0.05).Mean OV9% was 0.64±0.39 with spectacle lenses and 0.50±0.29 with soft contact lenses(P=0.029<0.05).Conclusion: No significant difference was found in OSI and SR between two different refractive corrections,spectacle lense behaves better than soft contact lense in MTF cut off?OV100%?OV20% and OV9%.In summary,spectacle lense is better for super high myopia patients to get a good image quality than soft contact lense,while the observer has ocular astigmatism above 0.5D.
