Modified Electra convulsive Therapy is a method of treating mental illness.It stimulates the brain by using the right amount of current and induces epileptic discharge of the cerebral cortex to loss of consciousness without muscle twitching,intravenous anesthetics and muscle relaxants are needed before treatment.Its curative effect has been widely recognized.Compared with the traditional ECT,it broadens the scope of adaptation disease,including someone associated with old,fracture,osteoporosis or other physical illness can be taken into consideration.But some adverse reactions are also inevitable,and the focus is on memory.This article summarized the mechanism of electroshock induced memory impairment,the influence factors of MECT memory impairment and the prevention and treatment of MECT memory impairment.It is generally accepted that MECT will take toll on memory,but temporary and reversible,the memory could be improved compared to prior treatment after the recovery.
