Objective:To systematically evaluate the effects of Modified Electroconvulsive therapy(MECT)combined Antipsychotics(APs)on memory in schizophrenic patients, and its relationship with time.To provide meaningful reference for MECT treatment of patients with schizophrenia in clinical practice. Methods:By searching PubMed,Embase,Cochrane Library(CL),WanFang Database,China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),China Biology Medicine disc(CBM)and the references in the literature published at home and abroad.A systematic collecting randomized controlled trials(RCTs)on the effects of MECT on memory in schizophrenic patients. To extract the valuable research data, and the results were systematically reviewed and meta-analyzed by Review Manager 5.3 provided by the Cochrane collaboration.Results:1.A total of 14 RCTs(n=1,394 patients)were included in study, there were 702 patients in the MECT plus APs group and 692 patients in APs group.2.Main results: Comparing the Wechsler memory scale score(WMS)of patients after different treatments,it was found that Memory Quotient(MQ)in MECT plus APs group was lower than in APs group on the first day of treatment with statisticallydifferences. There was no differences in MQ between the two groups at 1,4 and 8 weeks of treatment and at 2,8 weeks after treatment.3.Secondary results: At the end of treatment, the scores of picture, recognition, association and back number were lower with statistical significance in MECT(n?12times)plus APs group than in APs group. But the difference between MECT(n>12 times)plus APs group and APs group was not significant. Conclusion:It was found that MECT plus APs treatment was found to be more significant but temporary impairment than APs treatment on memory in schizophrenic patients in the meta-analysis.As the course of MECT increased, the impairment would gradually mitigate after 1 week of treatment, and there was no significant difference between MECT plus APs treatment and APs treatment.Increasing MECT course(n>12 times)would reduce the impairment on short-term memory and instantaneous memory in patients with schizophrenia. In view of the phenomenon that the increase of MECT treatment course leads to the significant decline of memory function in some patients observed in clinical practice. It suggests that the condition of patients should be fully evaluated, factors that may affect the memory function of patients should be avoided, and MECT should be used reasonably and correctly.
