ObjectiveAgeing population issues become increasingly serious in nowadays,it is of positive significance to promote “healthy aging” by studying the issue from the perspective of activities of daily living and healthy life expectancy. Therefore, the local elderly population aged sixty and above from Yinchuan City was chosen to learn about the activities of daily living and the healthy life expectancy,in addition, activities of daily living related influence factors including religious belief were explored and analyzed.Based on my research,I hope practical interventions and policy recommendations can be forged to promote the healthy development of ageing population and harmony between different ethnic elderly groups in Yinchuan City.Methods1075 potential elderly interviews were randomly selected from six communities and two nursing institutions for the aged in administrative districts of Yinchuan City by ADL scale,Duke University Religion Index and self-made questionnaire.Descriptive analysis, analysis of variance,chi-square test, binary logistic regression analysis were adopted to analyze the elderly ADL and related influence factors, besides,Sullivan method was applied to calculate the Healthy life expectance of included elderly people.Results1.Baseline information: 1075 elderly subjects were enrolled. The average age was 67.85±6.67.603 males and 472 females were included, accounting for 43.9% and56.1% of the total surveyed population respectively. The ethnic distribution was 760 Han ethnicity,311 Hui ethnicity and 4 other ethnicity, accounting for 70.1%,28.9%and 1% of the total population respectively. The characteristics of included population were appropriate ethnicity distribution of Han and Hui,low cultural level, low monthly income, living with families and satisfied with present life. There were 1049 elderly subjects suffering from chronic diseases, accounting for 97.58%,amongwhich,648 suffering from two or more chronic diseases, accounting for 60.30%.For meat diet,Han elderly people preferred lamb, but for the Hui subjects, lamb and beef were chosen. As for ways of old-age care,814 subjects preferred home care to non-family support, accounting for 75.7%.2.Activities of daily living and influence factors: The average score of the participant daily living ability scale was 18.93±6.53,621 subjects lacking Activities of daily living, accounting for 57.8%.In the physical activities of daily living,bathing(27.8%)and walking(18.23%)were the highest rate of missing.Among the Instrument activities of daily living, the use of transportation(48.28%)was the highest rate of missing, followed by cooking(33.12%),laundry(32.93%),and household chores(32.74%).The average score of the subjects on the Duke University Religion Index was 10.37±5.42.Analysis of variance for different religious beliefs scores were statistically significant. It can be concluded that Islamic and Christian scores> Buddhism and other beliefs scores> Do not believe in religious scores.Chi-square analysis of beliefs in the elderly and ADL cannot be considered statistically significant. The risk factors affecting the elderly ADL are rural residence(OR=2.185,95% CI:1.586-3.009),age(OR=1.569,95% CI:1.377-1.789),never exercised(OR=1.490,95%CI:1.207-1.841)and the number of affected diseases(OR=1.396,95%CI: 1.213-1.607).3.Healthy life expectancy: The life expectancy of the elderly in the sixty years old group in Yinchuan City is 25.74 years, and the healthy life expectancy is 7.60years;the life expectancy of the elderly in the eighty-five years old and above age group is 8.64 years, and the healthy life expectancy is 0 year,eighty-five years old age groups and older people all showed a lack of ability to work in daily life to varying degrees. The life expectancy of older women is higher than that of men at all ages, and the healthy life expectancy of the 60-to 75-age group is also higher than that of men.The healthy life expectancy of the Han elderly in the 60-age group was 7.49 years, and the healthy life expectancy of the Hui elderly was 8.03 years.ConclusionThe elderly in Yinchuan have poor activities of daily living and have a shorter healthy life expectancy. The place of residence, age, frequency of exercise and disease prevalence are the influence factors for ADL in the elderly. It is not yet considered that ethnic and religious beliefs will affect ADL in elderly.
