As death is an inextricable fate for all living creatures,numerous philosophers,litterateurs and medical scientists have done profound researches about death from different aspects.Huangdi's Classic on Medicine(short for Neijing in the following)as the earliest existing great work of classical medicine,comprehensively and systematically elaborates the traditional Chinese medicine system.In this work,there are more than 300 records and 84 articles about death.Doctors could diagnose patients' life and death according to the death theories and the clinical experiences.It has great significance on diagnosing the length of patients' life,grasping the optimal opportunity for treatment and arranging terminal affairs for patients and their family.Meanwhile,the researches of death in Neijing also provide abundant theories and understandings for later generations of doctors.Choosing discussion the case of death in Neijing as the research object,the dissertation analyzes the theoretical basis,internal and external causes,clinical diagnosis of death as well as the modern enlightenment of Neijing by using comprehensive method and comparative analysis.The dissertation could be divided into five parts:Introduction: This part summarizes the research background,research significance,and introduces the research state,research process and methods on the death discussed in Neijing.Chapter One: the overviews on Neijing.This part discusses the research contents of Neijing,its meaning to the development of traditional Chinese medicine,and the significance of the related discussion of death.Chapter Two: the theoretical basis,internal and external causes of death in Neijing.Through the analysis of the death discussed in Neijing,the author considers the theoretical basis of death include qi theory,four seasons and yin yang,and generation-inhibition in five elements.The main internal causes of death lie in the strength of five viscera,unity of form and spirit,and the principal external causes obtain the changes of four seasons and external environment.Chapter Three: the methods of death diagnosis.The common approaches of death diagnosis include color inspection,pulse diagnosis and symptom,which are respectively expounded in this chapter.Chapter Four: the dissertation discusses the modern enlightenment of Neijing from two aspects.Firstly,the no treatment principle in Neijing is an inspiration on the common phenomenon of excessive medical treatment for the patients whose lives are irreversible in hospitals of China.Besides,the dissertation inspires modern people the right ways of regimen on the basis of the theoretical basis,the internal and external causes of death in Neijing.The innovations of the dissertation lie in concluding the theories in Neijing which describe death(theories of qi,four seasons and yin yang,generation-inhibition in five elements)and interpreting the guiding significance of these theories to modern medicine and health maintenance by comparing the views of death in Neijing and the existing views of death in society,thus enhancing people's scientific understanding of death and their correct ways of learning about death.
