ObjectiveTo investigate the status quo and influencing factors of professional identity and ego identity status among undergraduate nursing students,and analysis the relationship between the two,form the perspective of ego identity,thus can provide theoretical basis for improving their professional identity of nursing students.MethodsThis cross-sectional survey method,form November to December in 2016,using convenience sampling choose 398 undergraduate nursing students form freshman to senior in Dalian medical school.using self-designed general situation questionnaire,professional identity questionnaire of nursing students and Extended Objective Measure of Ego Identity Status,using SPSS17.0 statistical package for data entry and processing,two independent samples t-test,one-way ANOVA,LSD for test,person correlation and multiple linear stepwise regression were used to test.with P<0.05 for statistically significant differences in standard.Results1.The total score of undergraduate nursing students professional identity was(47.94±15.34)points,the scores of five dimensions respectively from high to low were social modeling(3.06±1.24)points,social comparison and self-reflection scored(2.99±1.09)points,professional self-image(2.87±1.05)points,benefit of retention and risk of turnover(2.73±0.99)points,independence of career choice(2.33+1.11)points;Different gender,grade,first choice,father's education,mother's education and monthly family income of undergraduate nursing students professional identity overall score has significant difference(P<0.05);Only-child and origin of student,and served in the school of undergraduate nursing student's professional identity score had no significant difference(P>0.05).2.The dimensions of ego identity in undergraduate nursing students scores were:identity achievement(58.46±10.70)points,identity moratorium(56.61±9.76),identity foreclosure(54.17±16.56),identity diffusion(58.71±10.73);12.56% of nursing students in identity achievement,43.47% of nursing students in state of identity moratorium,17.84% of nursing students in identity foreclosure,26.13% of nursing students in state of identity diffusion.Degree of different gender,grade,only-child,first choice,father's education,mother's education and monthly family income of undergraduate nursing students in at least one dimensions scores on significant di fferences(P<0.05);And undergraduate nursing students with different origin showed no significant difference with regard to the ego identity scores(P>0.05).3.The correlation analysis of undergraduate nursing students ego identity and professional identity showed that identity achievement and the total score of professional identity were positively correlated in five dimensions(P<0.01);Identity foreclosure and the total score of professional identity were negatively correlated in all dimensions(P<0.01);Identity diffusion with professional identity scores,professional self-image,benefit of retention and risk of turnover,social comparison and self-reflection were significantly negative correlation(P< 0.05).Stepwise regression method was used to further explore ego identity status of nursing students impact on its professional identity,the result showed that the dimensions of identity achievement(b=0.415,p=0.000)and identity foreclosure(b=0.333,p= 0.000)were into the equation.Conclusion1.At present,the professional identity status of undergraduate nursing students in general,but there is still room to improve further.Different demographic characteristics of nursing student's professional identity score were quite different.2.The undergraduate nursing students ego identity state as a whole is not optimistic,most students in a state of identity foreclosure,and 12.56% of nursing students in a state of identity achievement.At the same time,different demographic characteristics of nursing student's ego identity score showed great difference.3.The professional identity level of undergraduate nursing students is closely related to ego identity status,and identity achievement and identity foreclosed were an important predictor of professional identity.Educators need to take effective measures to improve nursing students ego identity status,improve the professional identity ofnursing students,so as to in order to lay the foundation for promoting the development of nursing,ensure the stable nursing team in China.
