| Background Anxiety and depression symptoms in patients with maintenance hemodialysis is widespread, which has been shown to be associated with severe burden and poor quality of life.Serious emotional diseases bring great burden to patients and cause multi-system dysfunction including cardiovascular system and immune system, which increase mortality rate in HD patients.Intervention for the anxiety and depression symptoms may improve the people’s life quality and survival rate, but the specific mechanism is still not clear. It is not unified about the conclusion of the factors that influence anxiety and depression symptoms in patients with maintenance hemodialysis abroad. The domestic research on psychological status of patients with maintenance hemodialysis reports are also common. But,these research mostly focused on the evaluation of HD patients with mental health, and explored insufficiently to the correlated factors, especially the family support, economic conditions, the related laboratory index, sleep quality and so on.So it is necessary to discuss the maintenance hemodialysis patients with anxiety, depression and their correlated factors. Objectives We investigated their relevant factors of anxiety symptoms and depression symptoms in maintenance hemodialysis(MHD)patients,to provide the bases for the development of treatment strategies and the improvement of their life quality. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted.Eighty-two outpatients treated with MHD were included in this study. They were asked to fill out the HAD self-reported rating scales.MHD patients’ socio-demographic characteristics, clinical information, and laboratory parameters were also collected.Data were analyzed using SPSS version 19.0 software. Results Based on HAD scores, the prevalence of anxiety and depression in MHD patients were 36.6% and 79.3% in eighty-two patients. We explored the symptoms of anxiety and depression in this study separately. In anxiety group we found that the prevalence of female patients was more than male patients(P=0.021);The prevalence of rural patients with anxiety was more than the town(P=0.022);Patients receiving more hemodialysis per month seemed more likely to have anxiety symptoms(P=0.014).Patients with anxiety had a heavier burden of family than non-anxiety patients(P=0.036).We did not find the factors associated with depression symptoms in this study. From univariate analysis,HAD score of anxiety correlated positively with blood calcium(r=0.339,P<0.05).From logistic regression analysis, only gender(OR4.24-1,95%CI=1.136-15.835),inhabiting information(OR12.813,95%CI=2.506-65.523)and number of month dialysis(OR4.143,95%CI=1.605-10.697)correlated with an-xiety.Conclusions This result suggests that anxiety symptoms and depression symptoms are much common in MHD patients.Gender, inhabiting information, number of month dialysis, the blood calcium level and establishing vascular operations are concerned.Gender, inhabiting information, number of month dialysis will be the important factor relating to anxiety symptoms. |
