Effects Of Garlic Skin As Roughage On Physiological,Biochemical And Immunological Datas Of Hu Sheep

Abstract/Summary:
Garlic has the functions of bacteriostasis,anti-parasitic,improving immunity,improving intestinal microecology and promoting growth.It is an ideal animal feed additive.Studies have shown that adding garlic processing by-product,garlic skin,to feed can improve animal growth performance and enhance animal disease resistance.The junction of Jiangsu Province,Shandong Province,Hunan Province and Anhui Province is one of the main garlic production areas in my country and an important garlic processing base.Therefore,there is abundant garlic by-products-garlic skin.At the same time,some local cattle and sheep breeding enterprises(households)completely replace the traditional roughage with garlic skin and,but whether the garlic skin can completely replace the roughage to feed Hu sheep,will it affect their health?There is no report yet.In this study,60 Hu sheep were divided into two groups on average.The experimental group(EP group)used garlic skin and garlic stem as roughage,and the control group(CT group)used corn silage as roughage.Both groups were fed the same concentrate,with a pre-feeding period of 15 days and a test period of 30 days.Before the morning feeding on the end of the experiment,blood samples from 12 jugular veins of Hu sheep of similar weight(38±3 kg)were collected from each group,and their physiological indexes,blood routine,blood biochemistry,some cytokine levels,ATCH and GH hormone levels were detected,T-AOC level,to evaluate the safety of this feeding method.The main test results are as follows:1)The EP group was significantly longer than the CT group in feeding(100.00± 10.00 min vs 83.33±5.77 min,p<0.05)and the single ruminant time(140.00±8.16 min vs 107.50±9.57 min,p<0.01).There was no significant difference in physiological indexes such as body temperature,respiration,heartbeat and rumen permitted between the two groups.2)The levels of MCV,MCH and PDW in Hu sheep blood in EP group(31.95±0.69 fL vs.27.59±0.99 fL,p<0.01;9.75±0.17 pg vs.8.75±0.12 pg,p<0.01;15.14±0.09 vs.14.82±0.06,P<0.05)was significantly higher than the CT group,but all blood routine indicators were within the normal range.3)Compared with the CT group,the serum ALT and GLU levels of the Hu sheep in the EP group increased significantly(19.71±0.72 vs.16.64±0.66 IU/L,p<0.01;4.55±0.12 mmol/L vs.3.63±0.12 mmol/L,p<0.05),LDL-C,TP and GLB levels decreased significantly(1.07±0.08 mmol/L vs.0.73±0.05 mmol/L5,p<0.05;73.25±0.82 g/L vs.67.89±0.72 g/L,p<0.01;36.84±1.17 g/L vs.32.78±0.83 g/L,p<0.05),but all biochemical indicators are within the normal range.4)There was no significant difference in serum ATCH and GH levels in Hu sheep between EP group and CT group.5)Serum IL-2 and IFN-y levels in the EP group were significantly lower than those in the CT group(543.0±62.8 pg/mL vs.728.3±81.4 pg/mL;348.80±38.93 pg/mL vs.534.89±73.96 pg/mL),There was no significant difference in IgG,IgM and TNF-α levels between the two groups.6)The serum T-AOC level of Hu sheep in the EP group was significantly higher than that in the CT group(0.62±0.09 mM vs.0.55±0.03 mM,P<0.05).Conclusion:Taking garlic skin as a complete roughage has no significant effect on Hu sheep’s immunity,and improves Hu sheep’s total antioxidant capacity,but has no significant effect on anti-stress ability.
