Research On Occurrence And Countermeasures Of Crop Diseases And Insect Pests In Foshan City

This paper analyses the occurrence and countermeasures of crop diseases and insect pests in Foshan city from 2014 to 2016,for finding and solving the problem existing in preventing of crop diseases and insect pests in Foshan city,so as to promote the sustainable development of modern agriculture in Foshan city.And our conclusions are as the following:(1)Occurrence characteristic of diseases and insect pests: With the rapid advancement of urbanization,Foshan’s agriculture structure previously dominated by food crops is undergoing changes,leading to more frequent occurrence of diseases and insect pests in vegetables and fruit trees as their proportion rises in agriculture.High temperature and high humidity are both favorable conditions for pest outbreaks,contributing to the complex pest situation in Foshan.Now there are 16 major insect pests and over 50 major diseases here,causing perennial and crossed harms to crops due to transfer among multiple hosts and the lack of obvious overwintering phenomena.(2)Existing diseases and pests prevention and control technology: By upholding green agriculture idea persistently,we have endeavored to establish a monitoring and forecasting system from nothing to a system with upgrading equipment and a skilled,designated and stable contingent.In addition,efforts have been made to actively explore new methods such as biologicalcontrol,physical control and agriculturecontrol.A series of new disease-resistant crops varieties have been introduced as well as various green control technologies such as insect-proof net and sterile tissue culture plantlets.Diseases and insect pests information are released through multiple media.During this process,chemical control is always considered as the last ditch.Thanks to these efforts,a huge economic loss had been prevented,remarkable economic,social and ecological benefits achieved.These explorations greatly underpin the modern agriculture and the setting of Demonstration City of Agriculture Science and Technology.(3)Suggestions on the development of diseases and insect pests prevention and control technology: With regard to equipment,we should introduce more advanced ones since the current equipment are mostly produced by small companies who are unable to upgrade their technology and products timely.In terms of personnel,some of them also shoulder administrative duties.Lack of test sites also hinders the field application test and fixed-point forecasting.To address these issues,it is essential for Foshan to establish a more sound monitoring and forecasting system,reduce administrative burden on technical personals.What’s more,we haven’t had a mathematic monitoring and forecasting model yet due to the lack of historical data.Therefore,we should collect more climate and insect pests data to establish such a model.We also need to intensify technical training for professional persons,seize opportunities to communicate and exchange with peer institutions and organizations in order to improve our expertise.
