Industrial remains is an important material carrier in the industrial era,witnessing the development and changes of the city.However,with the rapid development of urban construction,the adjustment of industrial structure and the lack of attention to the renovation and reuse of industrial remains,the industrial remains of Xiamen Island began to decline,many industrial buildings were idle or even demolished,which had a certain restriction on the development of the area.There are some problems in the transformed industrial remains,such as the serious homogenization of functions,the strong utilitarian,and uniform architectural transformation.Therefore,how to give industrial remains new urban functions,how to better integrate into urban life and glow new vitality in the reuse of industrial remains are urgent problems to be solved.Urban catalyst theory emphasizes that through the intervention of a specific element,a chain reaction will take place to drive the change of other elements around,and promote urban construction to gradually and continuously promote development in accordance with people's will,and provide new ideas for the renovation of industrial remains.In this paper,author applied urban catalyst theory and assist with the theories of building recycling,organic renewel,etc.,and used multi-level research,overall linkage,POI data analysis,spatial syntax and other methods to comprehensively sort out the history and current status of Xiamen Island's industrial remains and summarize the characteristics,value,utilization grading and the renewel objective necessity of existing industrial remains.Author implanted the urban catalyst theory into the functional transformation and renovation design of the industrial remains of Xiamen Island,and explored the potential,objectives,principles and application of the catalyst renewel of the industrial remains of Xiamen Island.With the help of analysis tools,author made a comparative analysis of typical cases of industrial remains of Xiamen Island,summarized their successful experience and deficiencies,and constructed a strategy for the functional transformation and renovation design of Xiamen Island's industrial remains under the perspective of urban catalyst theory.Based on the analysis of the urban catalyst theory and the analysis of the current situation of Xiamen Island's industrial remains,author summarized that Xiamen Island's industrial remains has the potential for catalyst renewal such as location conditions,space utilization and cultural value,and extracted the six principles of Xiamen Island's industrial remains catalyst renewal,including the principle of overall linkage,the principle of functional adaptability,the principle of spatial identification,the principle of cultural inheritance,the principle of dynamic gradual progress and the principle of sustainable development.From the perspective of urban catalyst theory,the design strategy framework for the functional transformation and renovation design of the industrial remains of Xiamen Island consists of three parts: determination of catalyst elements,activation and remodeling of catalyst elements,and control and guidance of catalyst reactions.Catalyst elements include functional elements,spatial entity elements,and cultural elements;Catalyst element activation and remodeling strategies include functional element catalyst strategies,block-scale element catalyst strategies,park-scale element catalyst strategies,building monomer-scale element catalyst strategies,and cultural element catalyst strategies;The catalyst reaction control and guidance strategies include the control of the catalyst reaction from two aspects of overall control and phased construction,and the guidance of the catalyst reaction from two aspects of policy formulation and improvement of the surrounding catalyst environment,promoting the development of Xiamen Island's industrial remains in a positive and friendly direction,achieving friendly contact and linkage development with urban blocks,activating originally declining or idle industrial parks and promoting the organic renewal and activation of building monomers.
