With the continuous rapid growth of China's social economy for 40 years,the process of urban traffic motorization has gradually deepened,the supply speed of traffic facilities has been far behind the growth rate of traffic demand,traffic supply and demand increasingly prominent contradictions,a series of problems,such as traffic difficulties,parking chaos and bad traffic environment,have gradually emerged.As an inevitable outcome of urbanization,the old city has its historical characteristics,and the protection of historical features and the limitations of road system are gradually exposed.Therefore,it is extremely urgent to find a way to adapt to the high-quality development of traffic in the old city.Through reviewing a large number of literatures,it is found that the previous researches are mainly focused on the medium and large cities with developed tourism history and culture,and the research on the traffic improvement methods of small and medium-sized cities from the perspective of demand management is less.Based on the characteristics of small and mediumsized city old city traffic development(in shuyang,for instance),through literature,field investigation,video watching,methods of quantitative analysis,on the basis of studying the general situation of traffic demand management both at home and abroad,and from the aspects of traffic supply and traffic demand,including land utilization,population distribution,trip characteristics,public transportation,slow traffic and the characteristics of regional transportation and so on six aspects analyzes the shuyang city traffic status,points out the existing problems,and expounds the necessity of improvement from the point of view of traffic demand management.Article fully combined with reconstruction of old city planning,public transport,slow transportation networks and facilities,the starting point of the maximum coverage to the masses travel,comprehensive travel service tentacles,improve service quality,guide the masses in the long distance travel use high share of public transport,in short distance travel convenient use,environmental protection,low energy consumption of the slow traffic;Through the time limit,one-way traffic,differentiated charging and other measures to restrict the passage of some cars;Then by adjusting the land use,population distribution,wrong peak and school,wrong time to work,alternative ways to reduce the travel traffic from the source,in order to promote the balance between traffic supply and demand;At the same time,feedback evaluation was also carried out on some measures adopted,such as one-way traffic.Investigation and analog feedback were carried out on the traffic condition of the whole road network when the traffic volume was limited during the new epidemic outbreak this year.The evaluation results were allsatisfactory,which proved that the proposed demand management measures were effective.Finally,the research results and prospects of this paper are briefly summarized,in order to provide ideas for the research of traffic management in the old urban areas of small and medium-sized cities in other regions of China.At the same time,this paper also points out the shortcomings of the research,and preliminary design of the next step of the research direction and content.
