"White wall and black tile" is a unique style of traditional residential building in Jiangnan area.Its formation is the result of the joint efforts of nature,society,history and culture.The architectural style of "white wall and black tile" can be seen in the historical records of Song Dynasty,which mainly experienced three basic stages from formation to decline,and then to reappearance.Through the black-and-white color,the complex and changeable architectural form and the profound cultural metaphor behind it,the "white wall and black tile" residential architecture constructs a unique Jiangnan memory connotation,which carries the landscape memory like ink painting,the cultural memory of life and seclusion,the family-country memory of the war years,and the nostalgic memory of modern society.Through the construction of architectural landscape and image media,the imagination of Jiangnan memory is constantly enriched.The architectural landscape of "white wall and black tile" is not only the medium and storage place of cultural memory,but also the symbol of cultural memory,which produces new meaninginfinitely.In the process of symbol meaning production,the Signifier of "white wall and black tile" have experienced the extension of meaning twice,expressing the symbol of "home",the representation of time passing and the connotation of modern people's spiritual home.The "third space" of "white wall and black tile" integrates space entity,individual memory,collective memory and imagination,and finally "reproduces" new social relations and social memories that extend the past,the present and even future.The collection of collective memory in this space becomes the symbol system of the group,constructs a consistent sense of individual cultural belonging and identity,promotes the formation of family-country and national consciousness.Nowadays,commodity and consumption have become the logic of human life,and the nostalgic symbol of white-and-black Jiangnan has become the product of the collusion of mass culture and consumerism.In this case,it is meaningless to talk about reconstructing the memory of white-and-black Jiangnan from the background of consumption culture in modern society.Therefore,we should not only protect the memory of white-and-black Jiangnan preserved in history,but also establish a balance between reconstruction and imagination in the context of modernity.
