The space relationship between the hall and the bedroom,as well as called the spatial pattern in this paper,is the two basic types of space in the traditional dwellings. And it has a significant effect on the overall spatial shape of the dwellings and the living behaviors.During the early era of ancient Chinese society, the spatial pattern of dwellings was generally adopted in the form of "Main Hall with Adjacent Rear Bedroom".In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, this form had disappeared in the dwellings.Due to the lack of relevant archaeological discoveries and literatures research work, the historical evolution of the spatial pattern of dwellings, especially the spatial pattern of dwellings in Tang and Song Dynasties, has not yet been thoroughly explored. However, according to the description of related etiquette in Tang and Song dynasties, the spatial pattern of dwellings of aristocracies in this period can be recovered. Therefore, this paper selects the three most typical ceremonial works that had been used in the Tang and Song Dynasties, namely,"Datang Kaiyuan Li"(Tang Dynasty),"Shu Yi"(Northern Song Dynasty),"Jia Li"(Southern Song Dynasty),as the main research objects to be explored the spatial pattern in dwellings.First of all, this paper clarifies the content and application of the official ceremony of Datang Kaiyuan Li.According to the description of Datang Kaiyuan Li,this paper discriminates the position of "Zhengqin" and the interior spatial pattern of the aristocracies' dwellings. It is clear that the ancient spatial pattern,Main Hall with Adjacent Rear Bedroom, was strictly followed by " Zhengqin" of the aristocracies' dwellings in Tang dynasty. On the basis of clarifying the spatial pattern, the restored plane is drawn, and the typical etiquette scene is reproduced and analyzed.Secondly, this paper analyzes the book,Shu Yi,which was written by Sima Guang in Northern Song Dynasty, from the aspects of source, content, time and application of the book.According to the contents of this book, this paper defines the whole courtyard pattern of the dwellings, and analyzes the interior spatial pattern and function of the main buildings. In Northern Song Dynasty, the spatial pattern of the hall and the middle hall in the aristocracies'dwellings still inherited ancient pattern,Main Hall with Adjacent Rear Bedroom, but it has been simplified to some extent. On the basis of clarifying its spatial pattern, the hall and the middle hall plane were restored, and the typical etiquette scene was reproduced and analyzed. At the same time, the related etiquette flow in the Northern Song Dynasty, such as Ercheng Wenji and Zhenghe Wuli Xinyi, were combed, and the spatial pattern of dwellings was speculated.A more comprehensive display of the Northern Song Dynasty etiquette-related works in the spatial pattern of dwellings.Thirdly, the author, content and completion time of Jia Li,which is a book writen by Zhu Xi in Southern Song Dynasty, are analyzed and expounded.Tthis paper clarifies the overall pattern of the courtyard in Jia Li,and then discusses the spatial pattern and function of the hall and the middle hall. The hall and the middle hall in Southern Song Dynasty were further simplified and separated from the ancient spatial pattern,Main Hall with Adjacent Rear Bedroom. At the same time, the plane of the hall and the middle hall is restored, and the typical etiquette scene is reproduced and analyzed. Then, this paper analyzes and speculates the spatial pattern of dwellings in books named Dong Lai Ji and Zheng Shi Jia Fan.Finally, this paper points out that the spatial pattern of the aristocracies' dwellings in the Tang and Song Dynasties presents a gradual simplification, and supplements the conclusions in the previous article by analyzing spatial patterns of the dwellings in other types of documents in the Tang and Song Dynasties. This paper analyzes the reasons for the evolution of the aristocracies' dwellings in the Tang and Song Dynasties from the aspects of society, economy and culture. It is believed that the evolution of the spatial pattern of aristocracies' dwellings in the Tang and Song Dynasties is one of the concrete manifestations in the social transformation of the Tang and Song Dynasties.
