Lanxi was part of Jinhua Mansion, which namely Wuzhou in ancient times. There are many ancestral shrines in Lanxi, which play an important role in rural life. The traditional plane shape of ancestral shrines is generally the courtyard type. However,in Lanxi, addition to the courtyard type, there are three special types:surround-type,H-type and T-type,showing unique geographical characteristics. This paper focus on three special types of Lanxi ancestral shrines, based on the first-hand field surveying information,to analyze the architecture space feature and explore the historical value of the ancestral shrines. In addition, this paper compares the H-type in Lanxi area with the H-type in Guangfu area,in order to fully recognize the type characteristics of ancestral shrines in different regions.First of all,the paper discusses the culture background of Lanxi.with convenient waterway transportation, the commerce and handicrafts in Lanxi were booming.Since the Southern Song Dynasty, the Jinhua School had flourished, local clan culture developed.Secondly, the paper analyzes the types of Lanxi ancestral shrines.Based on the investigation and collection of 239 ancestral shrines in Jinhua,it was found that among the 60 ancestral shrines in Lanxi,18 were courtyard type,15 surround-type,14 H-type,and 13 T-type,accounting for 30.0%,25.0%,23.3%and 21.7%.The proportion of each type was balanced, other areas are mainly courtyard-type and H-type.The Sacrificial hall of the surround-type is a main hall.H-type is that between the Sacrificial hall and the bedroom is a corridor, which constructs a H-shape hall. The Sacrificial hall and the bedroom are connected together in T-type,which is different from traditional space. These three special types are rare in other areas of our country.Thirdly, quantitative method used to study the spatial pattern of special-type ancestral shrines. The surround-type is mainly analysed the relationship between the main hall and the courtyard, the spatial perspective of the main hall and the bedroom. The H-type is mainly paid attention to the depth and the width of the corridor. The T-type is mainly studied the plane scale of the bedroom, the position and number of the side doors. It is found that with the development of time, the main hall scale of surround-type,the corridor scale of H-Type and the bedroom depth of T-type show a shrinking trend. The changes in these specific spaces suggest that the special types may be derived from ancient system. Finally,According to the literature research, only Guangfu area has the similar H-type.the paper compares the H-type existing in Lanxi area and the H-type existing in Guangfu area.Based the differences of the ancestral shrines,it is inferred that the H-type in Lanxi is due to ancient tradition, while the H-type in Guangfu area is result of function.
