Traditional villages reflect China's history, culture and regional characteristics, and represent the spiritual outlook and noble qualities of the people in our country.During the 40 years of reform and opening up,China's modernization has achieved worldwide attention, and also the decline of traditional villages comes behind inevitably.A Large number of young people chose to leave home to pursue a better life.At present, the biggest problem of traditional villages is "hollowing out".Due to the departure of the young and middle-aged labor force, most of the rest in villages are the old and children. As time goes by,the population gradually decreases, and traditional villages gradually disappear in the long river of history.Under such a background in China, this article borrowed the "catalysts theory" proposed by American scholars Wayne Atton and Donn Logan, and combined with the current situation of traditional villages. This article attempted to create a chain reaction that can inspire and sustain the subsequent development of the village through strategically transforming the original elements or introduce new ones by the theory, thus protecting and activating traditional villages. The empirical research object of this article was the traditional village of Xiaojiaxi Community,Xiaoxi Town,Guang'an City. The research included the following contents: Firstly, through the analysis of the current situation of the Xiaojiaxi community, looked for catalysts carriers that can stimulate.Secondly, strategically transformed the found catalysts carriers according to the catalyst theory.Thirdly, combined with soft catalysts to guide the subsequent development of the catalyst effect.Through the above steps, the traditional villages of Xiaojiaxi community achieved updating. The idea of updating the traditional villages through catalysts theory was to protect the authenticity and also promote the benign development of the whole village. This article aimed to propose the exploring of updating traditional villages in China through catalysts theory, and provide references and ideas for the updating of traditional villages in other regions.
